Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I have always been heavy except when I lost a bunch of weight after starting smoking when I was a teenager. I kept that weight off for about 10 years. I, of course, regained the weight. At 40 years old, I needed to do something. My parents are both diabetic with heart problems. I knew if I didn't change my lifestyle, I was going to have a very difficult path ahead of me when I was older.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The worst part of being overweight for me was not being able to move like I wanted to. I felt really really old and out of shape. I didn't have any energy, and didn't want to do anything. All of the outdoor activities that we used to enjoy as a family held no interest for me.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I had my surgery on October 7, 2013 and haven't been able to see any results yet.
