I was a mess!! 1999, I lost my first born to premature delivery. Her name is Kiana. I was 19 years old, had no family support, the "father" no longer knew me, I was on my own. So I turned to drugs and alcohol for my comfort. Then it seemed the childhood abuse came into play, as did every other bad thing in my life, which sunk me deeper. I met my husband on Nov. 30 2002, started to try to get clean...

In short, I've always been overweight. I was born 9 lbs., 3 oz. I was a big kid who grew into a big teenager who grew into a big woman. This wasn't so much of a problem for me until about 2001, after the birth of my second child, when my weight surpassed 300 lbs. This was the heaviest I'd ever been and following a breakup with the father of my two daughters, I began to descend into a cycle of nega...

I had been overweight and obese for most of my childhood and all of my adult life. I had begun to consider weight loss surgery in my 20s but had neither the insurance coverage nor emotional resources to pursue the surgery at that time. I had been on diets since age 12, had struggled with binge eating, unhealthy eating concepts, and even a brief brush with bulimia until I failed my last diet (Weigh...

The difference between on December 17, 2011 and me December 17, 2012 is mind-boggling. As I looked at my features, I see the same eyes, the same smile, the same nose. I see the same coloring but that is where the seminaries stop. You see that woman in the “before” pictures was an unhealthy, unhappy, unsure of herself. Lacking self-esteem, she never thought much of herself. She always saw hers...

I was genetically exposed to being over weight and I have been overweight all my life. I came from deep southern roots where we ate everything off the pig from the rooter to the tooter, we ate rich foods, fatty foods, and high calorie foods. This caused me to acclimate myself to eat bad and not focus on my weight. Even though I was overweight, my mother NEVER allowed me to use my weight as an i...

I would excitedly try the newest diet, hoping this would be the one that would work for me. I might have limited success at first but then my willpower would fade and I'd fall off the wagon and end up gaining the weight back with interest. I'd feel like a failure. I'd feel powerless and ashamed. I'd often wonder if I was ever going to conquer this.

I have always struggled with my weight. I have tried so many different diets only to lose and gain back not only the lost weight, but also added pounds. I was scared to have WLS but finally through research I decided that the surgery could not be as dangerous as being so obese.

Hi, my name is Regina, I'm from N.j. I had to make a conscious decision quick on how to stop my life from spiraling out of control, whether I want to eat to live, or live to eat. I tried dieting, it just didn't work for me. I tried almost everything. I almost tricked myself in believing I wasn't fat. My weight kept me on a emotional roller coaster. I wanted to loose weight and when I didn't I woul...

I would guess as with most here on OH I've struggled with obesity most of my life. I was the fat kid in school. I can remember shopping for clothes with my mother and going to the "husky" section in the store. I dealt with the bullying and cruelty from my schoolmates through my high school years. Finally, at age 15 I went on my 1st diet. I weighed 265 lbs. I starved myself for 6 months and lost...

I was just in denial about how big and unhealthy i was. I thought i am cute so what i am big. I thought to myself i am in my twenties but feel and look horrible. I was so far gone i had to seek professional health. I was a undercover sad and depressed obese woman.

I grew up in a household where my mother was always on a diet. She went through all the diet plans out there. I swore I would watch what I ate and never get there. Well, I was wrong. I always watched my diet and stayed pretty good until the dreaded 40s. It seemed like no matter what I did the scale went up, up, up. I loved everything in my life (family, career, friends) but I hated myself be...

I started gaining weight when I hit puberty. From the age of 12/13 to when I had my surgery at age 39 (almost 40), I struggled with depression over my weight and body image issues. I slowly gained weight over the years until I ended up at 273.8 lbs on surgery day. I am only 5"1", so, that was pretty big for me. My weight definitely affected my personal relationships as I was extremely insecure and...

I had RNY lab gastric bypass on May 13, 2003. I went from 290 down to 157, wearing a size 4-6. In 2005, I got married, and my train jumped th tracks. I moved from my support environment to a new city, and lots of stress. Last year, I found myself weighing 320 lbs once again with a pre-diabetic condition. I was devastated that I had allowed myself to waste the precious gift of this surgery. Bu...

I was never fat growing up. BUT my two sisters were. I remember my mom and dad downgrading them (assuming they were being good parents). When I had my son 5/1989 I weighed 147 pounds BEFORE I gave birth. He was prematurre and very ill. I began to emotionall eat and I quit being active. I sat with him for many years to help his health improve, while mine was going down hill. He is now an healthy 23...

I've been overweight most of my life. I remember my Grade 6 teacher writing in my report card that I was fat. I remember weighing 150 lbs in Grade 7. I remember passing 200 lbs in Grade 10. After that, I guess for a while I thought, "Well, what's the point?" and gave myself carte blanche to do whatever I wanted to as far as food and drink went. Everything spiralled out of control after tha...

I have always been overweight. I remember at an early age around seven or eight my father telling me to sit down before I knock something over like a wall. Although I am now 43 I remember that statement and my feelings as if it just happened last week. I have always been the biggest person in the room. I have a daughter and my eating habits have been passed on to her. Emtionally I have always felt...

I have always been a person who enjoys parties, holidays things of that nature so I've always been excepting of my self. Just recently ( 3yrs +)I started feeling my weight has been causing me to be less then who I wanted to be. I was always smaller as a child but once I had my children 20yrs ago I became overweight. I didn't feel good anymore but I've always hid things so well.

I have tried most every diet or weight loss plan out there, Weight Watchers, Slim Fast, Atkins, even joined a hypnosis place to help me loose weight....I have always enjoyed food, and I am sure I have overeaten for years with out realizing. I do recall a period of time when my youngest was a baby I was much smaller (135lbs). I had a bad fall in...

Ive seen different people give an estimated time of when they started gaining all of their weight and it just dawned on me when I started putting all of mine on. Well, Ive always "thought" I was fat... always "bigger" than the other kids. Yet I look back at my school pictures, especially 8th grade graduation and I wasnt fat at all, I was downright skinny!!! I remember when I was 13 years old, my D...
