Board-Certified Bariatric Surgeon, Trace Curry, MD Completes the First Single-incision Gastric Band

Dr. Trace Curry has completed the first single-incision gastric band weight-loss surgery in Cincinnati.

Rather than the traditional five incisions used for laparoscopic gastric banding, surgeons used a single incision, reducing scarring, accelerating healing, and causing less pain.

"The goal of the new technique is to make laparoscopic surgery better by decreasing the number of incisions," said Dr. Curry. "Fewer scars are better cosmetically and potentially better for pain control. The pain may be less because you alleviate additional cuts, and therefore the recovery may be faster."
