Kansas senators hear about weight-loss surgery, state insurance
Justin Cessna appeared before the Senate Public Health and Welfare Committee on Monday less of a man than he was a year ago -- more than 125 pounds less.
The Wichita man spoke to lawmakers last year about his struggle to get insurance to cover weight-loss, or bariatric, surgery. At the time, Cessna was morbidly obese, walked with a cane and took a panoply of medications for health complications such as diabetes, blood pressure and heart problems.
