New surgical weight loss option
New operations for surgical weight loss continue to be developed and one of the newest may be the best according to a bariatric surgery expert. Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy combines the best aspects of gastric bypass and gastric banding without the drawbacks of those procedures. Like almost all bariatric (weight loss) surgery, sleeve gastrectomy is minimally invasive; done with the aid of camera and instruments passed through several tiny incisions in the abdomen. Surgeons create a much smaller, tubular stomach (hence the name ?sleeve?) by removing a large portion of the stomach. The smaller stomach helps patients feel full and satisfied with less food. But Dr. Lee Schmitt, a bariatric surgeon at Alabama Weight Loss Surgery, adds that the removal of part of the stomach drastically reduces the hunger hormones it produces. This decreases patients hunger for food in addition to decreasing their capacity to eat. Click here for full article.
