Even though she has lost more than 100 pounds, Deanna Figles of Lancaster doesn't like what she sees when she looks in the mirror.

Screenings, healthy eating can prevent heart disease, experts say

In recognition of Heart Awareness Month, Adena Health Systems is offering tips on how to prevent heart diseases.

Cardiologist Dr. Robert Bradley said more people are at risk for heart diseases compared to others based on certain factors.

High blood pressure, obesity, a history of heart disease in the family, age and smoking are just a few of the factors that can increase a person's chances of having a heart attack.

Two-egg diet cracks cholesterol issue

Research published has finally cracked the myths surrounding eggs and cholesterol. The study showed that people who ate two eggs per day, while on a calorie-restricted diet, not only lost weight but also reduced their blood cholesterol levels.

A research team from the University of Surrey headed by Professor Bruce Griffin fed two eggs per day to overweight but otherwise healthy volunteers for 12 weeks while they simultaneously followed a reduced calorie diet prescribed by the British Heart Foundation (BHF) – who normally restrict egg intake to 3-4 per week. A control group followed the same BHF diet but cut out eggs altogether.

Three months before my 40th birthday, I have bought myself a pair of size 16 jeans.

Just three years earlier, I was a size eight. Somehow, in less time than it took for my husband to propose, I have doubled my dress size.
 

I say 'somehow', but I do know how. After my youngest daughter was born two years ago, I continued to eat for two. Instead of losing my baby weight, I added another stone.
