Dear Dr. Donohue: Shortly after eating, I get terribly sick to my stomach. I have cramps, feel nauseated and sweat. Frequently I have to run to the bathroom because of diarrhea. This has been going on for more than six months. It happens mostly with dinner, but now I am getting a less-violent reaction at lunch.

"We used to laugh when I was in vet school and say, there aren't any fat wolves," said Denver veterinarian Kevin Fitzgerald, of Animal Planet's "Emergency Vets" and "E-Vet Interns."

Unfortunately for those of us living more domesticated lives ---- no matter the species ---- weight is no laughing matter. As more Americans struggle with obesity, there's an unsurprising result for the pets sitting on the couch with us. About a third of American pets are overweight, according to some studies.

A "New U" weight loss celebration

IDAHO FALLS - A group of weight loss patients from EIRMC's "New U" program is celebrating graduation Thursday night. They have collectively lost massive amounts of weight after lap band surgery.

Basically, "New U" is a support group. Its ran through EIRMC, and to graduate the patients have to keep up with a tough regiment of health habits long after the surgery.
