Pouya Shafipour Bariatric Physician M.D.

Pouya Shafipour, MD is a board certified Family Medicine specialist, specializing in a field of medicine known as Bariatric Medicine. Bariatric physicians use safe and effective medication in conjunction with dietary, nutritional, behavioral, and exercise counseling to care for the obese and overweight patients. Dr. Shafipour received his B.A. from UC Berkeley. He then continued his graduate studies and received a Masters degree from Georgetown University. Afterwards he went on to attend Loma Linda University School of Medicine, where he received his M.D. in 2003. He completed his internship in General Surgery from UC Irvine and residency in Family Medicine under the auspices of UCLA and became board certified in Family Medicine in 2008. Dr. Shafipour became interested in lifestyle transformation when he attended a peak performance health and lifestyle coaching conference in 2004. Following the conference he personally took some radical measures and transformed his way of eating and implemented daily exercise into his life. The impact of this transformation encouraged him to further pursue incorporating the idea of a sustainable healthy lifestyle into his practice of medicine. Through extensive training by the American Society of Bariatric Physicians (ASBP) and The prestigious Harvard Obesity Course, he has developed a weight loss and vitality program that not only focuses on healthy loss of weight but more on recognizing and eliminating the behaviors that have caused excessive gain. This program causes weight loss and maintenance of a healthy weight through a multi-level personalized approach of dietary transformation as well as change in behavior and along with peak performance exercise under the supervision of a certified trainer. Dr. Shafipour is currently undergoing the board certification by the American Board of Bariatric Medicine. He has passed the written and oral board examinations and is in the final steps of certification by the American Board of Bariatric Medicine. He has been a member of the American Academy of Bariatric Physicians for over 3 years. Dr. Shafipour is a highly dynamic practitioner always keeping up-to-date with the advances in medical weight loss, and anti-aging medicine. By utilizing the skills developed while working with personal trainers, and peak performance coaches, as well as his extensive clinical experience, he brings a refreshing perspective to each of his patients.
