Dr Amson is great. He gave me alot of information and it was very clear. I left his office knowing just what to expect.

Dr. Amson was a very personable surgeon. He took the time to explain, in detail, exactly how my procedure would be performed and what I could expect as far as recovery . He also was up front about the risks associated with my particular surgery, which I found refreshing.I did not feel rushed at all during my initial consultation with him.
His office staff were very helpful and answered my pre op and post op phone calls and questions politely.I did find the office extremely busy and it was not odd to wait more than 45 minutes in the reception room before I saw the doctor. This was a little distracting, but as I wasn't rushed at all when I was in the exma room, it simply showed me that he took time with each patient.
While in hospital,he visited me every day and answered his pages from the nurses if they called him re my case.
I would not hesitate to have Dr. Amson do another procedure for me should I need it.

In my opinion, surgical competence is more important than bedside manner, however, Dr. Brad Amson displayed both.

I found Dr. Amson to be quite concerned about morbid obesity even though he himself does not have a weight problem. He is quite willing to answer all your questions, although at times he is rather rushed for time. You seldom see him that you don't have a long wait. I found his office staff to be curteous and friendly.
I guess what I liked least about Amson is the amount of time spent waiting to get to see him. I started this process last December and am still waiting for a surgery date. Hopefully in October\November I will have the surgery, so be prepared to wait awhile. Don't expect this to happen over night. Amson discussed the pros and cons of surgery with me, although I had already researched it and decided that surgery was what I wanted. We discussed the VBG and RNY and decided on the RNY. I would rate Amson fairly high overall. My family doctor had him checked out before she would even refer me and he came highly recommended by other medical staff. I feel you should have surgical competence to say the least, but I also think you need some kind of bedside manner, especially with what we are dealing with.

My Dr. was Dr. Amson
In Victoria, BC, Canada.

He was very nice to me, and very empathetic.
He made sure I was able to have the surgery
as soon as possible, as my husband was
going to be leaving for school in the fall
and I needed all the support I could get.

His office staff made sure that I got to see
the doctor when I had some concerns.
I would have liked more information on after
care. He had an excellent bedside manner and
is highly regarded in the city. My
family physician (who also is a surgeon)
assisted Dr. Amson on my surgery. I
was very well taken care of!
I would rate Dr. Amson as excellent..
I am very happy with my surgery.

My first impression of Dr.Amson was he is a verry bussy doctor, the doctor was called into surgery. I waited to see him for over 3 hours, worried if I was going to see him or not considering I have bin on a bus from kelowna for 7 hr and had to go back the same day for another 7 hr bus ride. Dr.Amson was great I have never bin so understood before, usually doctors are fast and all ready have their own opinion about you when they see you.He made me feal like I matterd and was very saportive.

The staff is very understanding. The one lady has a great sense of humor, when she was calling people to come in she would say
"so and so come on down" and would make the wait so much easier, she was allways there to help and give advice, made you feel welcome.

The hole visit was informative and comfortable.
The only bad thing was my but didnt fit their seats..go figure, big people go there you think they would have bigger seats or seats that have no arm rests. But you could turn that around and think about how nice it will be to sit in there after your surgery. : )
