I started my bariatric surgery journey with Dr Jon Pirrello in 2021. He removed my lap band that was put in in 2003. I was such a mess inside. The lap band had slipped up off from the stomach area and was attached to my esophagus, my spleen and the pleural sac, by old scare tissue. I had Barrett’s Esophagus Syndrome, and a hernia. Also, he had to remove a portion of my small intestine and a portion of my large intestine because the medicine I was on for my arthritis had shredded some areas on my intestinal tract. Dr Pirrello had to find intestinal sections that could be repaired and wasn’t shredded. I was a hot mess. I truly believed Dr Pirrello saved my life. He said that he saved the pictures of my surgery and the removal of my lap band because I was going to be his next paper for peer review. I took the time to heal plus I had to have a hip replaced which brought me back to Dr Pirrello in 2022. I had worked with him again to do gastric bypass surgery. When I went in for surgery in March of 2023, my maximum weight was 235 lbs., The day of surgery I was down to 218 lbs. I am now at a plateau of 160 lbs. (I am trying to get down to 140lbs), I am off my blood pressure medication, I am off my arthritic medication, and I am no longer pre diabetic. I am also off my fibromyalgia medication. I’m still taking cholesterol meds and thyroid meds. I also take a multi vitamins but that’s it!!!! Oh, Yea for me! I still need to work through some weak stomach and back muscles, but walking and more exercise will help with that. I had to have both hips replaced so exercise has been slow going, but I’m getting there. I haven’t been this healthy in 30 years.

I can’t tell you how much I trust this doctor. My surgery was everything I was expecting. Dr Pirrello explained everything to me beforehand including pain management, “dumping syndrome”, pre surgery expectations, post-surgery expectations, what to expect for a weight loss range, he was so clear, informative, comical, and so understanding. He is an amazing doctor. When I worked with him his office was out of Norwich CT. I do not like the doctor who took his place, but Dr Pirrello has set the benchmark pretty high for any replacement doctor. I would recommend him in a New York minute. I cannot stress a rating of “Five Star Excellence” enough when it comes to him. He is and always will be my unsung hero! Thank you, Dr. Jon Pirrello!!!!!

Had Gastric Sleeve in 5/2013, weighed 250lbs 5’4 female in 30’s. He laid out all my opinions, explained it was my decision. Went to see nutritionist, found out my obesity was all genetic. That was my only medical problem. I work 12hr shifts in the ER for 20 yrs and still gained. It is now 5/2019 I am still 5’4 now early 40’s and weigh 144lbs. I was looking into skin removal but Haven’t at this point d/t 2yr Plateau. I maintained 165-175 for the last 2-2.5 yrs. 10/2018 I started loosing again with no extra exercise, no diet change, no nothin... ALL LABS GREAT... so I’m gonna hold off and start toning... Dr. Pirrello’s office was fantastic and very personable when he was in NC. Not sure about today...I can’t imagine he has changed much. He will always be a great doc, With a even better bedside manor..... I was managed by PCP 2months post op on d/t moving back to AZ. Dr. Pirrello was very receptive to me having to move away during recovery (spouse job) as long as my pcp managed my labs bi-annually, and than annually and updated the office in NC of any changes (which of course didn’t happen cause he is the best

I had the Sleeve gastrectomy 7 months ago and lost 100lbs. Doctor Pirrello was exceptional, he made sure that all questions were answered and explained. He personally called me from his personal phone prior to surgery to explain some tests results. His staff was outstanding as well. He is very professional but at the same time he makes you feel like old time friend. I have and will continue to recommend his services to all my friends. A+++++

I first met Dr. Pirrello October 17th 2011. He explained everything in detail and helped me to decide upon a VSG or RNY. I chose the VSG as it's not a Mal-absorption surgery and he said I would get good results with the VSG. That was as long as I followed their recommendations and realized that this VSG was a tool to aid in losing my weight. He also wanted me to lose 30 lbs. before surgery.

I then met with him again the week before surgery. I was 3 pounds shy of losing the expected 30 lbs. I talked to his assistant (Justin) first and then Dr. Pirrello. He was so great in explaining everything to me and wasn't concerned about the 3 pounds. Then on the day of surgery a week later I weighed in and had lost 31 pounds!

I only spoke with him shortly before surgery and then don't really remember him talking to me after. However, the next day when he visited before I was released from the hospital, he took the time to explain how everything went and even gave me a color photo of 9 different pictures he took from inside my body! My husband got to talk to him too that day and was very impressed.

Overall I have to say he is a wonderful doctor and he really seems to care about getting obese patients healthy. He also goes the extra mile to be sure of a great outcome from surgery. I could not have asked for a better surgeon!

Oh my goodness! He was awesome throughout this whole process. He made me feel so comfortable. On top of that, the day of surgery I met his PA(Justin) and fe;l in love with his bedside manner as well. They wanted to ensure that I was as calm as possible going into the procedure. I must say that I was calm, regardless of the outcome. The one thing that I must chuckle about regarding how easy recovery went is when I heard a little girl next to me asking her mother for a popsicle. I knew the procedure was done and I wasn't in any pain. None!

Dr. Pirrello was fantastic. We hit a snag on the day of my surgery and even though some other doctors were trying to send me home and get my diabetes under control on my own, he pushed for the surgery to happen a day or two later. He has been very supportive throughout the entire process and if you are in the Charlotte area, He is the ONE you need to see.

I had a consultation with Dr. Pirrello a couple weeks ago. I am in my third month of physician weight loss preparing for Gastric which should occurr in July 2011. Dr. Pirrello has lots of experience witht his surgery and success and not mostly weight loss for the patients. Although I know the surgery isn't the instant cure. But it is a start and a start that most people need when they get to that point. I am looking forward to the new me.

Update surgery scheduled on 07/05/11

I love Dr. Pirrello. He is wonderful. When I first met him, he was very quiet and right to the point. But after I met with him for the 3rd time at my final appointment before my surgery, he was funny and explained everything in detail to me. Answered all my questions........and believe me I had a lot. He advised me that if he didn't think I could handle the surgery, he would not have agreed to do it. He got there the morning of surgery, asked me how i was feeling.......nervous, of course and said he was going to take great care of me. He came up to see me Tuesday nite to see how I was doing, went over everything that happened, said he was still concerned about my blood pressure, because it jumped up after surgery so I had to stay in recovery a little longer. He monitored that through the nite and the next day. He brought me pictures of my insides and showed me what he had done.

Overall, he has great bedside manner and it very thorough. He answered all my questions, no matter how dumb they may have been.

First off, I'm a picky person. I'm hearing impaired, so needed a surgeon that had a somewhat deep, friendly voice and that had a decent bedside manner. I attended 4 (yes, FOUR!) , weight-loss-surgery seminars with various physicians before a good friend dragged me to hear Dr. Pirrello's seminar. I was immediately drawn to his amazing office staff, the cordial way in which everyone was made to feel welcomed and appreciated. I was truely moved by his passion behind his research/investment in Bariatric medicine and felt the urge to move forward with him and initiate a first consultation. Again, was impressed with the efficiency, the ease and professionalism of him and his recommended specialists. I'm looking forward to my surgery because I KNOW that his dedication and attention to patient details is exemplar. I LOVE Pirrello & Staff!
