Dr. Jonathan Aranow, Bariatric Surgeon
Jonathan S. Aranow, MD, FACS is the founder and director of the Middlesex Health Center for Medical and Surgical Weight Loss in Middletown, Connecticut. He is a nationally recognized bariatric surgeon specializing in minimally-invasive, robotic-assisted bariatric and foregut surgery. He earned his medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine and went on to complete his residency at Harvard Medical School and the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Dr. Aranow specializes in complex surgeries of the stomach and esophagus including hiatal hernia repair and treatments for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
Dr. Aranow is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). He is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) and a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), where he has also served as President of the Connecticut chapter. Dr. Aranow teaches surgeons nationwide in the techniques of robotic, bariatric, and foregut surgeries.

After recognizing the absence of surgical treatment options for obesity in Connecticut, Dr. Aranow founded the Middlesex Health Center for Weight Loss Surgery in 2001. Since then, he has performed more than 4,000 weight loss procedures with some of the best and safest results in the country. He offers patients minimally-invasive, robotic-assisted surgery with the use of the da Vinci® surgical robot. Utilizing robotic assisted techniques, Dr. Aranow performs Sleeve Gastrectomy, Gastric Bypass, and the Duodenal Switch (SADI and traditional DS). Utilizing advanced minimally invasive techniques, he also provides treatment for gastroesophageal reflux disease, hiatal hernias, and other gastrointestinal diseases.
Having performed bariatric surgery for more than 20 years, Dr. Aranow has been a part of the evolution of bariatric surgery and has served as an outspoken advocate for those struggling with morbid obesity. He has achieved national recognition for his leadership role in securing insurance coverage for weight loss surgery patients as well as for the excellent results he has seen in his surgical patients. He has campaigned in the state and federal legislatures for expansion of insurance coverage for these life-saving surgeries.
