Russell Gornichec Bariatric Surgeon M.D.,F.A.C.S.

Dr. Russell Gornichec is a board certified surgeon with a specialty in weight loss surgery. He is the medical director and bariatric surgeon at the Weight Loss Center of Arkansas. Before founding our practice, Dr. Gornichec developed successful bariatric programs both at his own practice and in several hospitals throughout Oklahoma City. Under his leadership, one such program attained Center of Excellence status. To date he has performed over 1500 primary weight loss procedures and over 300 robotic assisted procedures. Before becoming a bariatric surgeon, Dr. Gornichec was a fireman/paramedic in Dallas, Texas. Taking the advice of a pair of trauma surgeons he knew, he decided to attend medical school and pursue a career in surgery. Upon completing his studies he became a general surgeon for the United States Army where he remained until 2003. He was stationed in Oklahoma on active duty.   Dr. Gornichec has always been at the leading edge of surgical intervention for obesity. In 2003, he performed the first laparoscopic gastric bypass in Edmond, Oklahoma and in 2010 he performed the first robotically assisted weight loss surgery in Oklahoma.
