Edmund Chen Bariatric Surgeon MD

Dr. Edmund Chen is an award-winning published researcher, national presenter, and bariatric surgeon.  He first became interested in bariatric surgery while doing metabolic research at the National Institutes of Health in Washington DC in 2008.     Dr. Chen graduated with honors from The John Hopkins University with a degree in biology.  He earned his medical degree from the prestigious Cornell University, graduating in the top of his class and with honors in surgery. He then completed his general surgery residency at Northwestern University in Chicago.  During his surgery residency, he devoted an additional two years to full time research on metabolism.  His research during this time won numerous awards and has been published and presented nationally.  He further honed his techniques with a fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at Duke University, where he trained and worked with the leaders in the field of bariatric surgery.   Dr Chen is dedicated and passionate about providing safe and effective surgery that is individualized for each patient. He is known for delivering the highest level of patient care with compassion, dignity, and respect for the patient and their family. He draws upon his extensive research, training, and expertise to offer his patients the most innovative surgeries to achieve their weight loss and metabolic goals.   He exclusively uses the state-of-the-art DAVINCI surgical system to optimize patient outcomes and to perform the most technically excellent surgeries.  He specializes in ultra-minimally invasive DAVINCI general & bariatric surgery including Gastric Sleeve, Gastric Bypass, Lap-Band, Duodenal Switch, Omega Loop, Mini Gastric Bypass, SADI-S, Bariatric Revisions, Cholecystectomy, Appendectomy, and Hernia Repairs.    Dr. Edmund Chen is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery, fellowship trained in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery, and a member of multiple surgical organizations, including the ASMBS, ACS, and the AMA.  Dr Chen and his wife, Kathryn, live in Frisco, Texas along with their dog Riley. When not in the operating room, he can be found skiing, scuba diving, hiking, and exploring the four corners of the world with his wife.
