  • About Me
We are now offering Telehealth visits and can accommodate new patient consultations and follow up visits!   Visit our website at http://www.stopobesityforlife.com/ to schedule a virtual consultation! Dr. Desai spent his childhood in the southern United States growing up in Columbus, Georgia, a city known for its charm on the border of Alabama. He left the south to study in Chicago at Northwestern University where he completed his undergraduate education. He stayed in the mid-west to complete medical school at Case Western Reserve University where he had the opportunity to begin his clinical training with several of the world’s most innovative physicians at the Cleveland Clinic. Following his upbringing in the South and the Midwest, he discovered his second home during training, New York City. He completed his General Surgery Residency at Mount Sinai Beth Israel where he discovered his passion for minimally invasive GI surgery. He accumulated a significant research background with several publications and presentations in the field of surgery.   Following his residency, he completed a fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery as a part of the Scripps Health System in San Diego, CA. He developed unique expertise in bariatric surgery spending a year as part of the busiest practice in the state of California, the Pacific Bariatric Group with surgeons Dr. Eugene Rumsey and George Zorn, a cumulative experience of over 18,000 bariatric cases.  He became trained in robotic surgery during his fellowship obtaining special certification to use the da Vinci robot system in his procedures. He also gained experience in foregut surgery, and is trained to perform laparoscopic hiatal hernia repairs and Nissen fundoplications for gastroesophageal reflux. Dr. Desai is certified with the American Board of Surgery, is Board-Certified in Board certification in Obesity Medicine, and is an active member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He is proud to return to the New York area and serve Connecticut as a part of the New York Bariatric Group.
