Randy Wright Bariatric Surgeon MD, FACS

  • About Me
A Texas native, Dr. Randy Wright grew up in Fort Worth where a near insatiable desire for reading and learning and for the game of football allowed him to excel in both academics and athletics. Upon graduation from high school, he attended Baylor University, where he continued to attain excellence in academic achievement, earning both the Eddleman-McFarland and the Opal G. Cox Memorial scholarships and was also able to satisfy his love of sport as a proud member of the Baylor Bears’ football team. While a student at Baylor, he also began to develop a great love and compassion for the needy and underprivileged of the world, as well as for the sick and the infirmed. Initially, this led him to participate in numerous charitable and service organizations but ultimately caused him to choose a life-long career of service as a physician. He then went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in biology and made plans to attend medical school. Because of his desire to help those in greatest need, he also spent a year of graduate study at Southwestern Theological Seminary, specifically focusing on the subjects of foreign missions and cross-cultural relationships. Medical Education With no desire to leave The Great State of Texas, Dr. Wright chose to attend medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, where he earned his Doctorate of Medicine in 1993. He subsequently completed an internship and residency in general surgery at Baylor University Medical Center. While there, he became particularly interested in developing skills in the latest and the most advanced laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgical techniques. Since that time, he has continued his endeavor for excellence and expertise in the most advanced and innovative surgical techniques and procedures available so that he may provide his patients with the absolute best, and safest, healthcare possible.   Work History In 1998, Dr. Wright opened his surgical practice in the cities of Grapevine, Southlake, and Las Colinas. Since that time, he has expanded his practice to include hospitals in Trophy Club, Decatur, and Plano. Since he has always desired to be on the cutting edge of medicine, and to provide his patients with the absolute best and most innovative surgical procedures available, in many cases he was the first to introduce new surgical procedures, such as the Lap-Band, single incision laparoscopic cholecystectomies and appendectomies, laparoscopic hernia repairs, and other advanced laparoscopic techniques into the hospitals in which he has worked. In 2007, Dr. Wright became interested in bariatric procedures and has since received extensive training in multiple procedures, including the Lap-Band, gastric bypass, gastric sleeve, and gastric balloons. Personal Dr. Wright has been married to his beautiful wife, Elizabeth, since 1996 and has three amazing children, Mandie, Hannah, and Blake, that he loves dearly. Outside of work, Dr. Wright likes to participate in numerous outdoor activities such as riding his bike, camping, golf, skiing, paragliding, and shooting sporting clays. However, he still gets his greatest satisfaction from helping those who can least help themselves. Thus, he regularly performs mission work in multiple countries across the globe, which thus far has included Mexico, Kenya, Zambia, South Africa, multiple regions throughout India, and of course our own United States.
