Overall, it was a good experience. The 1st & 2nd shifts on my floor were excellent. They were supportive & would even cheer us on as we were walking laps following the surgery. The night shift left a LOT to be desired. I had to call several times each time I needed pain medication and then wait for long periods to receive it. If they could re-train that night shift, they had really good personnel.

It was great! The nurses were very caring and helpful. The hospital was clean, well-lit, and seemed safe.

It didn't seem clean and the staff was not very responsive to your needs. Except for an oriental male nurse on third shift.

I thought my care level was good. It would take an exceptional hospital for me to give anyone an excellent. I only had one incident where I had to wait 30 minutes for a nurse to come. The times I had to wait were at night and I think they were understaffed at night. You would think hospitals would put on extra staff at night since that is when patients need them most. The care was very good, it was just the promptness of the nurses that I found to be less than satisfactory. However, I feel they were doing the best they could.

IT TOOK (5) FREAKIN HOURS TO GET ME A HOT PAD FOR MY BACK. THE NURSES SAID, "WELL WE HAVE 8 PATIENTS TO TAKE CARE OF" MY COMMENT WAS I'M A NURSE AND I TAKE CARE OF 43 PEOPLE AND I NEVER HAD A COMPLAINT, AND MY PATIENTS NEVER WAIT 5 HOURS FOR ANYTHING. I HATED THIS HOSPITAL. THEY ACTED LIKE I WAS TAKING THEIR PAIN MED. AWAY FROM THEIR OWN PERSONAL STASH. I WOULD SAY, I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN MORE ATTENTION IF I HAD BEEN IN A DOG KENNELL.

I had heard horror stories about Carraway from other people who had the surgery. They talked about they had to wait hours before getting pain medicine, and the nursing staff was not good. But, I must disagree. I definitely had God's favor on my life. When I asked for pain medicine, the nurse was in there in less than 5 minutes each time I asked for it. They were eager to help me and assist me in any way they could, and Dr. DeWitt was great. I can't say enough good things about the Dr. or the hospital.

I did not feel as though the staff understood the surgery or the aftercare needed. I do not believe that the staff responded to my requests as quickly as they should have. The thermostat in my room was broken and I was too hot most of the time. The blood pressure cuffs that they used were too small and resulted in high blood pressure readings that were incorrect and which also caused bruising to both arms.
I have talked with Dr. DeWitt since I first posted this and he assured me that mine was an isolated incident and that steps had been taken to make sure that it didn't happen again. I know that a friend of mine had WLS at Carraway the next week and was treated very well.
