I had my surgery 7 months ago and was wondering if there is anyone out there that can help me figure out how many calories to eat a day. I finally got the protien down, and with the daily food journal all is good except I do not know what to set as my calorie allowance. Also, when does the hair stop falling out? I had to cut my hair real short due to the extreme loss, thank god I had think hair to begin with. I am consuming 80-90g of protien daily so I do not understand why it is still happening. any suggestions for either problems please let me know. ~Jeannie~

I don't worry too much about calories. I focus on getting 60 gm of protein, 64 ounces of fluids and staying away from white carbs. That being said, the food tracker I use tells me I have been eating around 900 calories per day. I don't track it, the program does it automatically.

What weight tracker to you use. My hair loss has slowed and I am seeing new growth. I started loosing it at the 5 month mark and it slowed at the 7th month mark. I concentrate on getting my protein in and I was told that is the best thing you can do with the hair loss.

Go to www.dietorganizer.com They have a great program that tracks a bunch of stuff, like what your metabolic set point is (how many calories to maintain your current weight), flow charts to show your progress, a database with lots of nutritional information (and you can add in favorite foods it doesn't have). They have a free trial and I think when I purchased the program it only cost me like $49 bucks.

Thanks so much Shirley for the pointer. I didn't know about the Diet Organizer and I am going to look into that. That is just what I need. If you have any other pointers please let me know. Do you have any new ideas about protien, like new products, I have been shakin' it for too long now and so I am adding protien to my decaf coffee in the morning then having a fresh/frozen fruit shake for lunch and having other small amounts of protien like in yogurt and stuuf. I get about 80-90g of protien daily but I am needing variety. Any ideas or recipes that could help? Thanks again, ~Jeannie~

You really should try for more food. There are lots of great choices for easy lunches, like sliced turkey and ham. My favorite quick lunch is a pouch of salmon (sold where the tuna is) with some salsa on it and warmed up. There's a great book called "Before and After" by Susan Maria Leach with a lot of good advice and wonderful recipes. Also "Recipes for Life After Weight Loss Surgery" by Margaret M. Furtado is another great source. Both should be available in Borders or Barnes and Noble. Eggface on this website is another AWESOME place for great, as she puts it, "food porn".

Thanks Rebecca, That is what I have been doing so I am hoping to see a difference soon. I was getting 40+g of protien and now I get around 80-90g somotimes as high as 100g. So, again I am hoping. Thanks, ~Jeannie~
