I perscribe Zofran for our cancer patients all the time.  The brand Zofran is over $100/pill and generic is around $85.  All depends on where you go to get it filled.  THAT is why the insurance doesn't want to pay.  Most insurances will allow a certain number per month and that is it.  If you want more they are more than happy to let you pay out of pocket.

Try Compazine, Phenergan, or even Reglan.  Old drugs which are much cheaper.
WTF? Are you sure $85 a pill? I can be nauseas for $170 a day

it can't be anywhere near that expensive.  Last year I got 30 pills and it said it was about $800 or $900 = that comes to about $30 a pill.

Phenergan is another antiemetic.  It WILL cause drowsiness though.  It comes in pills and suppositories (well and IV or IM injections too, but...).

The pharmacy in our clinic just gave me pricing information for self-pay patients regarding brand-name and generic Zofran for 30 tablets cash-out-of-pocket:

Zofran 4mg #30 tablets:              $665.00
Zofran 8mg #30 tablets:              $1340.00
Ondansetron 4mg #30 tablets:  $15.00
Ondansetron 8mg #30 tablets:  $15.00

Can't beat that generic price with a stick and that's without even using an insurance card!  It pays to shop around and ask for self-pay pricing versus insurance copays.

Ondansetron 4mg #30 tablets:  $90.72

I guess the point I was making was sometimes it's easier to just pay cash and avoid all the insurance regulations.  A lot of times, unfortunately, it's cheaper that way too and you have to make less trips to the pharmacy.  Good luck!

I am on Zofran and have been for the last 3 plus years after trying everything made for nausea including many off label medications/herbals/hypnosis/ acupuncture etc.  My story in a nutshell is RNY 04 with terrific results and wt loss of 230 lbs. 2 yrs after developed a fistula that was surgically treated with basically a new pouch. From that time I have been in/out hospitals/TPN/TUBE feedings****il I said no more). The only thing that keeps me able to marginally at best stay hydrated etc is zofran. I currently take 8-10 4 mg dose per day. I get 180 8 mg and break them in 1/2 and get them from Costco. Call one if you have one by you. You do not have to be a member to use their pharmacy. When I 1st started there was no generic and the cost was > $4000 month which thank goodness my insurance paid. Now I am on medicare and no matter how many appeals my Drs and I have sent they won"t budge any pay so I pay out of pocket which now being on social security is a major hardship but without my Dr even told medicare I will die. Costco the cost is @ $300. Walgreens quotes me close to $1500 so as one member said shop around the difference in costs between pharmacy's if unbelievable on all meds.  Hope you start feeling better!   Janette
