I am currently going through Dr. Hoddinotts office to get weight loss surgery. I have already had my referral from my PCP, had my initial consultation at Dr. Hoddinotts, had my Psych Eval and my 3 months documented weight loss attempts. At this point Dr. H's office says they are going to submit my Letter of Med. Nec. to Medicaid/ Medipass. Does anyone know how long it will take? I know Dr. H's office says Medipass is the easiest to get approval. Just wanted to know if anyone else has went through Medipass' approval process. If so how long did it take and was it hard? So far it has been really fast and easy but it is seeming to easy!!!!

Hey, sorry but I can't answer your question. I don't have medipass and don't know anything about it. I wonder if you can help me though. I also need to have three months of documented weight loss attemps. What was documented for you and did your PCP document it? So far, I just went to my PCP and she wrote down that we discussed my weight and weighed me. We did this twice in October and we are doing it again in November but I don't know if that will be enough. What do you think?
Thanks.

What surgeon are you going through? If they are like Dr. Hoddinott's office it will take about a month to get through the whole process and submit your request to your insurance. So, if you do go at the beginning of December you should be fine. WHat days in October did you go? If one was at the beginning and one at the end the insurance might count that as 2 months but toi be safe I would schedule one in Dec too. All I did was tell my PCP that I wanted to have WLS and he noted it and then he told me to do a low salt, low fat diet and then had me go in every month for weigh ins. It sounds like you have the majority of what you need with the exception of that last weigh in. I would schedule it for Dec 1st :) But my PCP did it for me. I went to my first appt. September 30th and they submitted me to insurance October 7th. So once you get your weight loss attempts and Psych Eval done it goes really fast. Good Luck and if you need anything else let me know.

I am going through Dr Kim in Celebration. I think the visits in October may count as one visit because they were only a week apart. I will take your advice and schedule another visit in December. My surgeons office has to wait until Jan 1st to submit my info to the insurance for approval but the good news is that my surgeons office said my insurance will approve me and not to worry. Thanks for your help.

Sorry I can't answer your question. I am seeing Dr. Hoddinott for the first time at the end of this month. I have my psy eval scheduled and was told its a 2 part. First screening then about a week later the psychiatrist. Is that what you had to do? I am clueless, and don't know what to expect at the "screening". I now am worried because of you mentioning  about 3 months noted, and although my PCP has seen me monthly I don't know if it was noted and now I found out she has left the office I go to. Last visit to her she said that he is pretty quick gettting everything done, so it sounds right for you. She had patients go to him and was very pleased and saw great results. I wish you the best.

Thanks for the best wishes :) When I went to my PCP the only thing he did was tell me to go on a low salt, low fat diet and then have me come in for monthly weigh in. If you have mentioned to your PCP your plans for surgery and  have had any weigh ins you should be fine. The Psych Eval is easier than I thought. It is a 2 part session. The first one you go to will be with a counselor and she will ask you a series of questions just to make sure that you do not have any underlying mental issues that need to be addressed by the Psy. The second part is where you actually see the Dr. and she will ask you questions about why you want to lose weight and methods you have tried to lose weight. She will also ask you if you can explain to her your understanding of the surgery as far as risk and long term maintenance. It is a little nerve raking but not to bad. In reference to your PCP leaving, the doctors office she was affiliated with should be able to provide your medical records. If it was only her in the practice you would either have to locate her and ask her new office where those records are kept or find a new PCP and start the process over. I know that Dr. have to keep your records for 7 years so if she moved her practice she should have your records stored somewhere. Madaline is awesome and she will request your records and if there is something missing she will notify you right away. I went to my first appt. with Dr. H on September 30th and Madaline has already submitted my request for approval. It can go pretty fast at his office. Oh and last thing, Don't be late for your first Psych. Appt they request everyone be there an hour before your scheduled appt. and if  you are late by more than a few minutes they will not see you. Good Luck and if you have any more questions let me know :)

Thank you so much. I already have  all my specialists sending my records in to Madeline. She was very nice. I am going to Share of Cost next month and I thought everything was shot, but they are still able to work with me. The timing will just be harder. As far as being an hr early for psy. Is that the one for the dr, because my first appt they told me to be there a half an hour early. Maybe I should call back. I got in before psy a day before my first  appt to Dr. H so I didn't know if there was anything I needed for the screening like a medicine list or if that will be for the dr. to go through. I just don't want any confusions. I am really looking forward to getting it done, and hope there are no glitches. Keep me updated on when you get your surgery date. Thank you again.

I sure will. What it is  they give you up to 30 minutes before your appt to get there after that they give your appt to someone else and reschedule you. So as long as you get there at the latest 30 minutes before your appt. you should be fine. I was told an hour to be safe but you can call and make sure. SInce your records have been sent to Madeline then she will be able to submit you way sooner. When you go to your first Psych Eval they will ask you what meds you are on so take a list. But other then that it sounds like you are 2 Psych Evals away from Insurance Submission!!!!! Good Luck!!! It nice to know someone else is right there with me in the process!!!!

Wow....yeah I had my frst consultation with Dr. H on September 30th and they submitted my paperwork to Medipass the following Friday. I guess I just feel like this is moving way faster than I thought. I am curious as to Dr.H. I see that everyone seems to really like him and have great things to say about him. What is his after care like??
