Topic: RE: new VSG in Southeast KS - patient of Dr. Hoehn!
I just sent you a friend request so you can read my blogs/updates.  I loved Dr. H & have had a wonderful experience.  I'm so happy that I made the decision to get the sleeve done = has changed my life already & I'm only 3 months out.  The future is so very promising now...I'm excited again about life, about being active with my family, and so much more opportunities that my weight has limited up until now! ~best wishes on your journey & I look forward to keeping in touch! ~Melissa

I recall from the past here on the KS forum a member named marylaw who ran a support group in Winfield.  She has a VSG like yourself.  I think her surgeon is from OK, though.  I think the group disbanded due to lack of attenders.  On page three of this forum's past threads, I found one of her posts about it. http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/KS/4096360/January-Support -Group-Meeting/  Here is her proflile page http://www.obesityhelp.com/member/marylaw
.  You can private message her to talk, and maybe even meet in real life.

It doesn't look like this forum is very active but I thought I'd say "Hi" to all the other Kansans out there!  I live in Southeast KS & I used Dr. Hoehn of Bariatric Center of KC for my VSG on 2/16/12.  Since I'm so far from my surgeon, I don't belong to a support group & I'm using OH as my support system!

Topic: Anyone in the KC area?
Hi my name is Kayla. I had Gastric Bypass 12/19/11 and was wondering if there was anyone around the KC area that was wanting someone to walk or work out with? I would like getting to know and meeting new people that are going through or have gone through some of the same things I have.

Topic: LGBT forum invitation
Hello,
I just wanted to let people know and anyt there is a forum for the community and anyone who is friendly and want to stop by. I was very active 3 years ago and would like to see it become active again.   It is listed under  "weight loss related"

I am not attempting to offend anyone. I understand that some might not agree with me posting. I am doing it to help LGBT people. Everyone has the right to not agree. I respect that.

Hi...I think there is also a support group at KU Med West monthly.  I have never been but had considered going.  The number there is 913 588-8400.  Good luck!

 Hi Micah,

I am from Olathe, KS...which is really close to Overland Park. I just had VSG with Dr.Stanely Hoehn at KC Bariatrics. They have a support group there but it meets at around 3:30 I think. I can not go to that because I can not leave work every week early. I am looking for some support as well. Let me know if you find one that works for you... I might like to go as well!

Thank you! I will look into those when I get home (which I can't wait to do, by the way!) and see if I'm allowed to attend. Not sure how that whole situation works :)

Thanks again!

I am in KC area on the MO side
I know there are several places but I cannot speak to how good they are,  I know they have one at Shawnee Mission Medical Center and one at St Lukes.  I have heard good things about both but never attended.  Good luck on your search! (Im sure there are more I just do not know about them)

Topic: Anyone in Overland Park?
Hi everyone!

My name is Micah and my family and I recently moved to Overland Park for my husband's job. About two weeks after we moved, I had to begin my pre-op diet and then come back to Kentucky, where we just moved from, to have my WLS. I just had my surgery on 11/18 and now that I'm going to be going back home to Kansas around Christmas, I was curious to know if there were any people in my area that had recently had WLS or if anyone knew of any support groups in Overland Park.

My surgeon is in Kentucky and suggested to me that finding a support group to go to would be a good idea. I think so too! I'd also just like to make some new friends there - I enjoy being social and experiencing whatever life throws at me! So...if you are in the Overland Park area and have any input or just want to say hi, that would be great!!

Thanks

~Micah

My husband is military and currently deployed he is 40 yo and we have been together for 13 years. Topic: RE: Hi...looking for support and advice
I went to my 1st weight loss surgery seminar thinking that what I wanted was the Lap-Band.  I learned of the ObesityHelp website from one of the papers that I picked up at that seminar at St. Francis in Topeka.  After reading for a long time on the message boards here, especially on the message board about the duodenal switch, I decided that I wanted a DS.  I am one year out and love my DS. (Although, lots of people one year out are still in the honeymoon period.  I recommend you read the different message boards specific to the different surgery types and see how people like their surgery after multiple years post-op.)  Anyways, the Tallgrass/St. Francis weight loss surgery program in Topeka offers patients the adjustable gastric band (whether Lap-Band or Realize brand), Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, vertical sleeve gastrectomy, and the duodenal switch.
