Ok I know this is TMI, but I am preop on 3-4 protein shakes aday and nothing else. I haven"t had a bowel movement in 4 days. Should I be worried about this? Did any of you experience this?

I would call your doc and ask if you can use mirilax(sp) or something like that. My doc office said if it's more then two days we have to do something. They had me take mirilax you mix it into one shake a day until you go. I had to drink it twice, one time a day for two days. If is tasteless.

I was and I still experience extreme constipation with my protein shakes.  Even if I limit it to one shake per day I add the miralax power to the shake .  My surgron has recommended the miralax over using other products such as MOM or laxatives.  One of my local Drug stores carries there on product called Puralax and it is less expensive and just as effective.  Hope that is helps.

I wouldn't worry... think about it... liquids in, liquids out.  I didn't have but one the entire two week pre-op diet.  I asked my doctor about it and he wasn't concerned at all and said it was completely normal for a liquid diet.  Ask your doctor about it to be certain but really I think it's nothing to worry about.

Since the protein shakes are mostly water, you will pee them out...there is very little residue that ends up in your bowel from a liquid diet.  Unless you are physically uncomfortable, there is really no problem!  Good luck with your surgery!

I haven't had any problems until about 6 months ago...Now I use Benefiber everyday and lots of it!!  It is not out of the norm for me to go once a week, and that is with food!!

I would take a stool softener if it's ok with surgeon because not to be TMI also I had constipation pre op and post op so it ended up being about 8 days before I had a bowel movement and I cried because it hurt so much. Sorry to be graphic just wanted to share.
