problems with face and legs going numb

Hello everyone. I had the lap band put on 6 years ago. About 4 months after my surgery I had a mini stroke. Since then I have occasional anxiety and numbness in my face. Just the last few months I have frequently been having this issue along with constant vertigo all day, everyday for over a year now. My body tingles, my face and legs go numb, I can't focus clear, I can't walk straight, I've seen a cardiologist, ENT specialist, rheumatologist and now a neurologist who is trying to rule out MS. Everyone seems to think it may be my lap band. I'm beginning to think so myself. Does anyone else have this problem?

If you had a mini-stroke, it sounds , in my totally non-medically qualified opinion, to be much more related to that than the band! I know that the band can affect the vagus nerve and the diaphragm but have never heard of it causing vertigo, facial numbness etc..

but the one specialist you haven't mentioned seeing is a bariatric one! If the other docs are saying it is th band, then you need to ask a band expert.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Called my bariatric office and spoke to the nurse, she asked the nurse practitioner if she has heard of anything like this happening and she said no.  But they want me to come in and see my surgeon and talk to him about my options of having my band reversed or removed., thanks for the reply

I agree with Kate it sounds far more likely to be from the stroke than the band. I have read where the band can trigger some auto immune problems but this sounds more neurological or cardiac related than band related.

I've just been to so many specialist and nobody can find out what's wrong.  I am scheduled for a lumbar puncture in a couple weeks to rule out MS.  So frightened to get that procedure that I may chicken out and cancel.   I feel like i'm on mystery diagnosis.  Thanks for your reply!

Just from MY experiance form the Lab Band - I had the numbness, after it was removed, numbness was gone and all feeling was back. The doctors told me the same thing, never heard of it happening before. The test sounds very scary, completley understand you being frightened, however, please Do Not cancel your apointment, MS is serious!  Sending prayers your way, God Bless, and Good Luck.

Where did you have numbness? What other symptoms did you have?  I see my doctor in January to talk to him about removing my band also.

Has anyone brought up the possibility of the Vagus nerve being affected, by any chance? I'm not sure the symptoms you list really "scream" Vagus nerve irritation, but you never know. It's a major nerve system that is adversely affected often by gastric banding. I had pain in my ear and neck as well as my left shoulder with the band. (Due to the nerve damage.)

Sending you my best wishes. I hope you can get some answers and feel better. I'm sorry you're experiencing this.

I looked that up online also and from what I found, I doesn't seem like that would cause the symptoms I have.  My neurologist doesn't seem to think the band has anything to do with it either.  Thanks for the reply!
