Topic: 7 Years Post op - Seen Surgeon -Lap Band still like new - and got a fill
I seen my lap band surgeon today, I got a fill under Fluoroscopy to check my esophagus and pouch. I got some saline removed last December when I got irritated from "eating too much" -- hey sometimes we get complacent and forget the rules...so I decided to give my band a long rest.

But I think I rested a bit too long because I did not like what the scale registered -- BUT NO PROBLEM - SUZIE MY LAP BAND CAME TO THE RESCUE AND I GOT RESTRICTION AGAIN AND IS STILL KICKING IN FULL FORCE AT 7 YEARS POST OP

MY BAND HAS BEEN JUMP STARTED -- NO NEED FOR A REVISION

I GOT A BUILT IN TOOL INSIDE OF ME-- READY AND WAITING FOR ME TO COOPERATE
.

Lap Band * 9/30/2005 * 4cc 10ml band, currently 2.6cc of saline, lost 130 poundsTo date, no hospitalizations or major complications, still have all original parts. I am grateful for my health.

If an Upper GI doesn't show problems, it makes me wonder what test shows a slipping or dialation? Only a full CAT scan?

Topic: Dissapointed with the Message Board-nothing seems to change
I have been away  from the board awhile. I have been banded for many years and doing well.  I view this journey as a daily work in progress. I must take care of myself and be accountable. I stopped by to do so and nothing seems to change. I guess there will always be surgery wars so to speak, regrets, and people getting very defensive. I'm truly sorry for those who have gone through hard times and those that live in fear. Who knows....I might be in the same boat a year or more down the line. Today, I am well and fighting ever day to stay healthy physically and emotionally. Whatever method you practice to stay healthy, I wish you the very best!!! It is not an easy battle or chore. I am thankful for this journey! I feel like I received a second chance and I'm riding it out with a positive outlook. Best wishes to all!!!

This was my experience most of last year, and the reason I ended up with a revision to the sleeve.  When my surgeon removed the band, he noted that it was still in good position, with no slip.  My theory is that the esophogus gets tired of having to work extra hard to get food to the stomach, and issues creep up at about the 2 and 3 year mark.  I was 2 years out from my revision to fix a slip (slip caused by surgical error) when I noticed lots of issues.

I used to have that "plugged" feeling when my allergies where acting up, the post nasal drip was enough to cause a "back up" that would leave me uncomfortable.

My upper GI did not show my dialation or slip, it was not until I had a full CT scan that my slip was evident.

Good luck, if you feel like you don't get an answer from the Upper GI, ask for the CT scan.

Because people come back here with issues and need help, what kind of help can you offer them if you have not had problems or band failure? That's right, you can't offer them anything but the advice to go somewhere else to look for help.

And I don't think people jumped all over you because of your success, they jumped on you b/c of your finger wagging and telling people how to act on a public board. Sometimes we have to remember that we have to take the good with the bad, and that support isn't always telling people positive things that they want to hear.

So sorry to hear about your loss, I have been there myself and know how hard it can be.

Congrats on your daughter though, I am sure she is the love of your life.

I am one of the people who lost their band, and I stick around to share and help others and also because some of my favorite people still post here and I like to read what they write. I know some people see me as negative, but I share what happened to me because I feel it's important.

Oh and PS I am totally green with envy that you are having another baby, I wish I lived closer so I could come over and get baby snuggles once your new one arrives, b/c my two year old refuses to be snuggly anymore.

It was one of my hardest lessons to learn, and one of the biggest reasons I never use food to reward my kids. Growing up EVERYTHING was celebrated with food, and it's always the first place my brain goes, so I find myself chanting this mantra in my head over and over again.

I think maybe now that my hormones are balanced (I have very bad PCOS that is finally controlled with the weight loss and diet) I am much less likely to freak out and start screaming at random people, it's definitely a plus for me LOL

I am with you, can't stand the stuff. The only one I will tolerate is the banana one, and that is only if I am stuck and it's the only kind I can get my hands on.

I love your avatar message - it is one of my favorites! I think I am less pleasant as a smaller (not skinny yet!) person!

My new favorite is the RTD Oh Yeah shakes, they are a bit high in cals, but I like them for days that I work out hard or need a few extra carbs. I have also developed a real taste for the Optimum Nutrition Gold Standared Whey, the Rocky Road is fantastic and so is the Cookies and cream.
