Hi all, my name is Michelle. I just joined again recently but I wanted to share with all of you that after being referred to Dr. Beausoleil in August of 2007, I have my consult on Friday! I am both excited, and nervous as this type of surgery is still on the chopping block for Medicare. I hope and pray it does not get taken off of the coverage although I do hear tell they are reconsidering their options and may NOT remove it from coverage.

I have a question. Has anyone else here dealth with Dr. Beausoleil, and if so, what are his wait times on average after the consult to have the surgery done? Just looking for a time frame idea. I'm sure it varies. Also, is anyone else here a Type 1 diabetic?

Guess thats all for now but I will keep you all posted. To all of you who have had your surgeries, congrats and I hope all went well for you, and to those of you still waiting, keep your chins up, it will be worth the wait!

Hi Michelle - congrats on getting your consult date! I got my first appt a year after my referral was sent - then surgery two years later. Keep in mind that it was back in 2008 that I had my RNY - and the process has changed a lot since then - so I really couldn't guess what your wait time will be. In between my first consult appt and the actual surgery - I think I made 4 trips to NB  - one for an education session - one for a follow up consult - one for consent signing and one for pre-op tests etc. And of course the all-important weigh ins each time! Good luck and I hope your wait time is minimal!

Hi Michelle! Congrats hun on the consult! I remember the excitement and the nervousness but you will get through it fine we all have. After my first consult it didn't take long. There was a misunderstanding that happen and because of that I got in sooner then I was suppose to.
I had a hard time at first but I lost over 115lbs in less then 9 months. I feel so much better. No regrets thats for sure. Plus I WAS a diabetic but not anymore!!  Been off the meds for a few months now.
Good luck you will be in my prayers.
Dr. Beausoleil is great easy to talk with! Let us know how things went.
Take care cause we care

Wow, congrats on all your sucess. I am a type 1 diabetic so I will never be off the meds but I am hoping to get rid of all the OTHERS I am on lol

I can't wait until Friday. Right now, I'm just scared I will never see it through because of what Medicare is trying to do to funding. It's scary because I am SO close now. I hope it happens soon because I also have a hernia that is becoming increasingly painful and since it is my 5th in the same area, it is useless to try and have it repaired again before I have lost some weight since it will just come apart again and I am SO sick of sugery!

Anyways, I'll let you know how it went on Friday and thanks for getting back to me.

Hi Michelle! I remember the excitement of my first consult and am glad you received your call. I had my first consult in Jan 2010 and had my surgery by Oct 29, 2010. Mind you things are slower over the summer and they had setbacks with the OR time and the room itself. I guess setbacks are a normal part of life! So good luck and keep us posted. I am down 110lbs in 7 months and feel so blessed to have had the VSG. Talk soon... Trish

Yeah it sure is a scary, exciting time. The roller coaster ride is just beginning. I think I had surgery 6 months after the consult but he wanted extra consults with specialists because other health issues. Everyone is different as far as wait times between consult to surgery. When people come from out of province, they usually get in faster because NB does not pay. They are a source of revenue.

As for my particular surgery - I did not get in faster because my government paid. There were people at our education session who were done a full year ahead of me. While it may happen in some cases - and I have no doubt it does - it wasn't that way for me. I would expect it may happen more often these days as the $$$ is the all important factor sometimes. I would hope that the wait times for Dr. B may be eased a bit now that that we have our very own WLS in Newfoundland - and also these is Dr. Ellesmere and Dr Savoie up your way. Have a great day everyone!

Well, I had my consult today and Dr. B was awesome! Now I have to wait for my info session. I wish I knew how much longer I had to wait for that. All of this waiting is positivily nerve wracking!
