Hi Karen!

Thanks for the nice greeting - you have all been so sweet and welcoming to me - no wonder I was attracted to this forum!  I'm really looking forward to getting to know all of you as well and sharing your journeys with you. I'm already feeling much more knowledgeable although I still have many questions, which I'm sure will be answered as time goes on. I'm so glad I posted!

Hi Deb..welcome to the group. I live near Windsor and went through Windsor Bariatric process with Dr Treki as my endocrinologist at the clinic.

I too have sleep apnea, and had hoped RNY would cure my apnea issues but am not thoroughly sure as I have "mixed apnea" a blend of obstructive apnea(usually cured by WLS) and central apnea(an issue with brain stem forgetting to tell me to breathe), so perhaps my cpap will remain my bed buddy for life! Have you tried the nasal pillows? My hubby has sleep apnea too and could not find a face mask to fit properly but had success with nasal pillows... the only thing with them is, they are only effective IF your pressure level on your cpap is not extremely high. His is 11cm and he can successfully use the nasal pillows, mine is 14cm and the respirologist said likely too high a pressure to keep the pillows at my nose.

I had my RNY at Toronto Western Hospital March 2, 2011 and the last metformin tablet I took to control my type 2 diabetes was day BEFORE SURGERY, my blood sugar levels have returned to normal and I was on metformin twice a day before surgery with only fair control of my blood sugar levels .. now I range between 4 to 6 for my blood sugar levels no matter if I have
eaten or not.
My blood pressure is now great 114/60 and I suspect my blood pressure pills will soon be
discontinued, and perhaps soon my crestor will be stopped as well. My crestor dosage was decreased about 6 months ago, and the doctor said that most likely it will be stopped soon.
I am a bit doubtful about that as genetic predisposition to eleveted cholesterol and triglyceride levels runs in my family. But, whatever happens happens.
The best thing I ever did for myself was having bariatric surgery. I feel GREAT.. LIFE IS GOOD.

I have to thank all the great folks at OH forum for their tips, hints, advice to help make the process run smoothly.. and the support group for Windsor area is great too. They meet the 1st Tuesday of every month..

Hi suzyq!

Wow, thanks for all the great information! I did try the nasal pillows as well for my sleep apnea, but my pressure was 14, the same as yours, and it was too high for the pillows.  I appreciate the suggestion though.

That's wonderful for you that your sugar levels are now so good along with your blood pressure readings - what a terrific bonus to the bariatric surgery. I sure hope that you are able to stop taking the Crestor as well (I take it also, but my cholesterol is only slightly elevated).  You must be so thrilled for so many reasons!

Thanks for letting me know when the support group meetings are held. I'd like to go to next month's meeting.  I agree that this forum is full of great people and I'm looking forward to learning more as we go along.

Hi Deb.
Welcome aboard.
Definately try going to a support meeting, there are people in various stages of WLS, and it's helps all that pose questions. Even those further out can learn something they might not have thought of.

Enjoy your journey

Hi J !

Thanks for the nice welcome! Congratulations to you - you lost an entire other person - that is unbelieveable! You must be thrilled to pieces by what's happened to you!

Yes, I am planning to go to the next meeting - as you say, there are people at all different stages of their journey and I'm sure that I'll learn from them as well.  I think that this is going to be quite an experience!
