Referral didn't go in

That sucks but good thing you followed up! Following up is a great idea through this entire process (as you have just found out).
As you wait you may want to start working on some of the lifestyle changes that go along with this journey (quitting smoking if you smoke, stop using straws, cut out pop, adopt a more active lifestyle, etc etc). Doesn't make the waiting more fun but it helps you though the process....

I am glad I am anal about follow up, I think the last 6 years of neurologists and orthos specialists has made it second nature to me.
Most centres require you to be smoke free for 3-6 months before they'll do the surgery so you've got a bit of time there - wasn't sure if you were aware of that or not. But sounds like you are working on that already so likely you are.. I'm as anal about not assuming as it sounds you are about follow up :)

Just a tidbit of info, when I was at my orientation, there was a girl that had quit smoking 3 months previously but admitted to having a couple of cigarettes the week before and they would not give her any appointments and told her to call the centre when she was smoke free for 3 months.

Sorry to hear about this, but at least you've caught it and it should all be going right now. Follow up again next week to make sure it's gone in.
Like others have said, keep following up (even once it's at the hospital/clinic) - but don't be a pest. I had an issue where mine was sent to the wrong hospital, so I ended up being over a month behind. But, once it was at the right place, I politely asked to be put on a cancellation list. Since I'm available pretty much any weekday, and I live close to the hospital, I can go at any time. This helped me immensely. My 1st appt was to have been June 10th, but because I said this, I had it 2 weeks after orientation. Now, I'm heading for surgery!!
Keep positive thoughts going forward. Good luck.

You could have your GP call the registry to ask if they got it. They won't answer your calls/questions, but they will for a doctor.
Since you're in Hamilton, yours will go to St. Joe's. Krista's in charge and she's really friendly. I'd say give it about 4 weeks. They're getting busier and busier, but my time (once they got my referral) was about 3 weeks before she called me, then about a month to the orientation. Expect 3 months after that for first appt., then, by the time all your testing is done (another 3 months +/-), about 3-6 weeks to surgery (after your surgeon's appt.). All totalled, it should take 7 - 9 months from referral to surgery.
Get your GP to order a sleep test at the Sleep Clinic on Frid Street. Don't go thru St. Joe's or you'll end up waiting months and months.
If you can make it on short notice, when Krista calls you, ask to be put you on a cancellation list. This is how I got through so quickly. Otherwise, I wouldn't have had my first appt yet.
If all goes well, you should be looking at the end of the year/early next year for your surgery. I know that sounds far off, but look at it this way ... doesn't it just seem like we just had New Year's Eve, and now it's nearly June? And how great would it be to start 2012 with the beginning of a new you!
