Finding out a surgeon

Hey everyone.

I have my orientation tomorrow at TWH. I am wondering wondering when we find out when we know which surgeon we have?

After your orientation you Nurse Practitioner, Social Worker, Nutrition Class, Nutritionist, Psychiatrist appointments (1 each, at a minimum) - then they all get together and decide whether to refer your case for surgery. If it's a go (and it usually is if you've made it through all the steps) they refer you to a surgeon and you will get a call with an appointment and at TWH the surgeon you have your appoinment with is usually the surgeon that does your surgery (or at least they are trying for that but it will depend a bit on your schedule, as I was told at my orientation).
So I would guess it will be several weeks, probably at least a couple of months before you know who your surgeon is as you first have to be referred for surgery by the assessment team before you are assigned to a surgeon.

Hi I am going thru TWH as well. We don't find out until the end of the process. I have just 2 more appointments to go in August then see the surgeon.
They will tell you tomorrow that your surgery can be at TWH, Toronto East or Princess Margaret.

The plus side of your orientation tomorrow is that you will get your first 2 appointments (Nurse practioner and SW).

Patience has taken on a whole new meaning for me. Started the process last August.

I think you mean TWH, Toronto East, and St. Mike's (not Princess Margaret).

Not necessarily, depending on how fast you go throught he appointments it can be anywhere from 3-6 months.

They told me 4-6 months from orienation to surgery - I'm hoping for 3 months but we'll see!
