Help with avatar picture

I have tried uploading a picture several times but can never seem to get the kilobytes under the allowable. I have made my picture 100 x 100 pixels as it suggests and when I save it in photoshop I save it as the lowest size file possible available in terms of memory but it is still too large. Does anyone have any suggestions they could offer?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!  Ive always had a hard time trying to size my pictures right!!!  This is so much easier lol
