plastics disappointment

okay so for my third year anniversary I treated myself to a self paid abdominalplasty.  I had maintained my weight for over a year and realised that this was about as small as I was going to get.  I started at between 335-340 and got down to approx. 170 and a size 14.  I am 5'9" and am supposed to be 150.  Thinking that the plastics would help my self image and fast track me on the way to losing again I forged ahead.  WRONG  things did not go well.  I look like crap 3 months out.  the scale hasn't budged even though the doc says he took 6 lbs off.  I still have a spare tire that would fit a semi. and am still in a size 14.  I ended up back in the hosp. with a severe infection after 1 month post op and my recovery was slow.  Doc says this is as good as it gets and he took off as much as he could.  I'm 48 single and look like hell.  I guess 9thousand doesn't get you what it used to.  Hindsight is wonderful, I should have taken the money and bought an RV.  Is anyone else disappointed with their plastics.

I am so sorry to hear of your disappointment. First, I think your weight loss is amazing! I am not expert but Size 14 for your height seems to be perfect.  Don't concentrate on the scale. Congrats on that success!
Who was your plastic surgeon? How did you select him/her?

Dr. Silverman in Ottawa.  He came highly recommended by numerous people and I've seen his work.  He is supposed to be the best.  I did my research.

I have a friend who had plastics, an OHIP paid adominalplasty and a self paid tummy tuck,  and she wasn't entirely happy with the outcome.  I think she is getting more work done to fix part of it in the fall.  I'm not exactly sure what the issue is...I think she said something about a bump that isn't suppossed to be there.
I also have another friend that got some plastic surgery on her face and at first, she hated it because she couldn't recognize herself and thought it looked worse than before,  but now she has grown to like it.
I guess its all about your expectations.  You say that you don't look good, but you probably do look wonderful.   We are often much harsher judges of our own appearance than anyone else is.

I'm sorry to hear you're having a hard time.  I had plastics on July 24th with Dr. Nan.  I'm very pleased thus far.  I have a follow up with him this week.  I had a full tummy tuck with muscle repair and a breast lift.  I started at 182lbs when I had PS surgery and am down to 169lbs this morning.  He said he took 8-10lbs of skin/fat.  I hope this gives me the strength to carry on and lose what I had hoped to with the VSG.  I am only 5'1.
I hope that you can get some counselling to help you deal with the issues that are holding you back from continuing on your weight loss journey.
God bless,
Marilynn

Please, Please, Please folks.. get someone who knows what to do with our skin.   It's not like the mommy make over of a tt.    Our skin has been stretched more ways than one.    Please make sure you see pics, and talk to other patients of the surgeon you choose.
Cheap is not always better, experience is.

My surgeon has worked with Bariatric patients before,  if he didn't have the experience I definitely would not have chosen him..He was actually more  expensive than the others I consulted with so I didn't decide on just $$$.  I went with who I fully believed was the best.

I'm thinking it would be better to go to the States for plastics, since they have more gastric bypass people there and better expertise.

@ heavenlyhash - can you post any pictures, before & after?

A big concern with going outside your area is what happens if you have complications post-op. And there are a lot of experienced surgeons (with post-op bariatric patients) close by.
