6 Days Post Op & High Pulse Rate
I don't remember how much mine was, but it was high in hospital. Over 100 for sure, and that was resting. They were concerned but it went down enough for them to release me. Call your doctor maybe?
Surgery March 23/2011. Completed three full marathons and two half marathons, two half Ironman distances. Completed my first Full Ironman distance (4 km swim, 180 km bike, 42.2 km (full marathon) run) in Muskoka August 30/2015. Next Ironman Lake Placid July 23/2017!
I had an issue with high pulse the day after surgery. I had diarrhea that was black and was losing a fair bit of blood. My pulse got up to about 130 before I was given a blood transfusion.
Do you have any other symptoms or is it just the high pulse?

Three days after surgery I had I high pulse rate, The surgeon came in the next morning and said that because my pluse is high he is going to operate again to make sure of no leaks. He said that if your pluse is high it means your body is fighting something and if it's a leak you won't win. His exact words....So that was the reason for my second surgery. I suggest you call and let them know. They may want to see you. CALL THEM not really a good sign especially after my experience with a high pluse rate!

I was also losing blood via the bowel, but my heart rate was in the low 50's, high 40's when I slept.
I would use a machine to take your pulse, not manually, or yourself. But it sounds like you did.
People hold their breath or are anxious, and then the reading goes up.
Rapid heart beat can be caused by:
- anxiety
- low oxygenation
- pain
- low blood volume (are you drinking enough?)
- blood loss
etc. etc.
So YES call your surgeon (not the center). The surgeon is the most motivated to make sure his/her work has no complications.
