Can coughing fits & sneezing starting 5 days post-op do damage???

 I didn't want it to happen but it started 5 days after my surgery & I'm frustrated!!! I get a tickle in my throat, sometimes just dry or post nasal drip & I cough like CRAZY!!! I'm worried that I'm going to tear something open! I hold a pillow on my stomach & apply pressure but it doesn't work that well. Has this happened to anyone else? Am I doing damage? Any suggestions???

I really doubt you can do damage. Keep using that pillow. I had bad coughing about day 3 or day 4 post-op, it cleared up quickly though. Hope it does for you too!

I hope you didn't actually catch a cold (what with stress and being in a hospital full of sick people), but you could take an OTC remedy to reduce coughing and congestion.

For me, the cough was related to trying to clear the anaesthesia out of my lungs.

Hopefully you are not coming down with a cold!
