Hair loss???

I had RNY on May 30th. I've started to notice more hair loss this past week, and my hair is brittle. I know some hair loss is normal at this point. My concern is I have seen some people who are far out of surgery, long past a year, who are still having hair issues. They have thin hair, that looks lifeless. I am taking my supplements, and am eating protein diligently... getting between 60 and 100 grams a day.
My question is, has anyone had long term hair issues that is eating properly, and is taking supplements as they are suppose to? Im trying to sort out what would cause hair loss issues past the initial shock to the system.

Thank you!!! :)

my friend, who is almost a year out, has been taking B12, E and Zinc supplements, and says that her hair is growing back in well.

My hair is coming in ok, but i think i might take those supplements.

I am 2.5 yrs out.  I've had about 3 phases of hair loss.  The 1st, and the most significant one was around the same timeline as yours.
I'm blessed with a lots of hair so it's not noticeable to most (just me, hair stylist and my mom).
Zinc and biotin help me as per my specialist.
Omega 3 has helped my skin to be less dry, which "may" influence my hair too.
Hair care products: Moroccan Oil the best investment ever, trying not to tie my hair back too tight as I am loosing a lot a the base of the scalp.
My hair is growing in more frizzy and curly but not straw like as before.  The 1st grow back didn't feel quite as healthy.
3rd phase of hair loss was a few months ago.  Seems to go in waves for me and a sign that my body is changing.

I'm with you Monalisa, I had surgery May 14 and my hair is all over my clothing. lol

I also have fairly thick hair, but at this rate it is scary.

I'm a year and a half out.  Lost at least a third between 5 and 10 months out.  I ate / eat  lots of protein and took zinc at first; then my zinc levels got too high and I switched to Biotin, which I still take.  My hair is growing back in quite nicely.  I second the vote for Moroccan Oil - it has made a tremendous difference for me. My hair is less brittle, more shiny, and my hairdresser says my hair is now getting stronger.  Patience is tough, but the situation does seem to turn around.

I had a bad case of hair loss about 4-6 months post.  It lasted approx 3 months, then stopped....At the time I thought I was going to end up bald, as big pieces fell out daily.  I was scared! BUT once it stopped, my hair grew back I. And I have never had that issue again.  I am 12+ years post.

I'm 1 year and 5 months out and had the same issues at the same time.  I also took Biotin which slowed it down but right now I'm not experiencing any hair loss (knock on wood).

Thank you all for your input. I will try those supplements. I wasn't sure if the hair loss was prolonged and more severe in people who weren't eating properly and not taking their supplements.

I'm about 3 weeks behind you surgery wise.

So far my hair is not falling out, but maybe I've been confusing it by dying it a different colour each week.

Thanks for the advice on Biotin and Morroccan oil.

I too had hair loss starting at about 3 months and it seems to be slowing down now. I have been supplementing with biotin from pre op.

One note if you are blonde do not use moroccon oil it will discolour your hair. If you are blonde the silk product is the same as the moroccon oil. It can be bought at Costco the cheapest of all or if you want to try a small amount first (it is expensive) shoppers usually has it. Silk is good for frizzy hair it will keep moisture and keep the frizz down. You do not need very much at all to get good coverage.
