Coverage!?

Hi everyone

 

im new to all this and have started doing research.... Does anyone have any advise about OHIP coverage for bypass surgery??

Hi NorthernKat;

 

Yes, OHIP does cover the RNY & VSG procedures.

Take a look at www.ontariobariatricnetwork.ca and it will give lots of info :)

 Orientation at HRH - Jan 13, 2014. 1st Meeting with Surgeon (Dr. Klein) & blood work - Jan 30th. Sleep study - Feb 5th. OHIP will cover the RNY as long as you meet the criteria (BMI 40+ with no co-morbidities, or 35+ with co-morbidities), if you want a VSG, you will need to discuss why with your surgeon as he has to apply for the upped coverage.  Most of the process is covered, but there is one blood test (not sure if you have to do it multiple times) isn't covered unless you have it done at the hospital (for some this isn't possible).  It will also not pay for your Optifast (the shake program you are on for at least 2 weeks just before surgery to shrink your liver).  OHIP will also not cover the vitimins and suppliments that you will need post surgery.
