I didn't think it's covered by any plan. I believe they mentioned that in our orientation...that's the one guaranteed cost we would have prior to surgery.

Good luck!

Hmm. I have seen a couple of people, quite some time ago, try to get assistance with paying for Optifast through ODSP, but I do not know of anyone who actually received it. I believe you're on your own there.

Your food allowance for that month should cover the cost of optifast. You won't be buying groceries so use that money to pay for it. I have never heard if anyone getting it covered through odsp.

Since it is a prescription, keep your receipts. You can at least claim it on your taxes as a medical expense.

There is no DIN number so CRA can refuse it. Also if she has no income other than ODSP she has no taxable income so medical expenses will be of no use to her.

Sorry, they won't cover it.

there is a number for Ohip where you can request special coverage, perhaps try them?

heads up, they won't cover your blood thinners either. I think I paid $235 or something?

Actually, you do not need a script in the U.S.  It may be purchased on EBay.  It is still costly, but cheaper than the nutrition shop our WLS clinic referred patients to go.  It was $100/week/4 shakes/day.  Good luck!

Some of the stuff on eBay is not the optifast 900. I have a friend who bought some there and it was the optifast 800 and the centre wouldn't allow it as it isn't the same stats.
