Food Funerals Pre-Op
I start my very low calorie two week diet next Wednesday and for the past week I have been saying good-bye to food one day at a time. I have done really well on my 6 month supervised diet but I feel like I should have certain foods one last time before I'm done for good. I haven't gained any weight but I have definitely gone over my reommended sugar and carbs. Am I normal? Did anyone else do this?
A lot of people seem to do this, and it's really not necessary. There are very few foods you will never be able to eat again. Certainly you will eat smaller amounts, like one slice of pizza instead of a whole pizza, and you won't be able to eat some foods for a while. But it's unlikely this is really the last time you'll eat many foods.

My big funeral was sushi. 10 rolls in one night. I've had sushi since surgery a few times, but I'll never be able to have it in that volume - which is a good thing!! But I was saying goodbye to being able to eat all the sushi at once. I don't regret it, I still lost 25 pounds in the 2 months prior to surgery.

I had a giant Red Robin hamburger with endless Parmesan garlic fries and a beer. I do not regret it. It helped me get mentally prepared.
Now, I can eat part of a burger - a few fries - and about 3 ounces of beer if I wanted.
Don't blow it out of the water - you may want a piece of your most favorite dessert in case you dump - but don't stress the "never."
I had food funerals a week before by liquid diet. I ate pizza hut wings, pizza, sausage rolls etc. Bought a lot of candy and i even made my favourite jumbo homemade cookies with a lot of frosting. I was hell bent on enjoying all these things. I did for the first few days and then i got sick of them. I had a really bad sweet tooth and the funny thing i didn't even enjoy the cookies that i had made or the candy, that i only ate a couple and left the rest. I think this helped me change my mind set and get ready for surgery. I was on my third day of the liquid diet when thanks giving came (October here in Canada). I made all the food, whi*****luded all my favourite appetizers and i was not tempted one bit. I drank my Vanilla/banana infused opti and was content. I had made a commitment and i stuck to it. I realized that i'll be able to eat those things later on down the road and i didn't really need to do that.
You are normal and good luck.
