Getting sleeved with less than 100lbs to lose?? Why?
I am not knocking anyone who has been sleeved or is getting sleeved that had/has less than 100lbs to lose. I want to make that clear. I can only speak from my personal viewpoint.
So with that said, I am curious why anyone would put themselves through major surgery to lose less than 100lbs. Have you spent years gaining and losing and can't keep off the weight? Is this for medical reasons only? Is this just the first thing that you have turned to?
I personally never considered surgery for weighloss until I was super morbidly obese. I have always yo-yoed with 50 - 100lbs since my 20's. Now at 43 and 2 children later I am over 300lbs. Never thought that I would be here but here I am. I was sleeved 5 weeks ago and I am so glad that I did it because yes I could go back on the high protein diet that I did 2 years ago and spend 3 hours a day in the gym 7 days a week and drop 100lbs again, but I just couldn't bring myself to doing that AGAIN. I knew that it would not be permanent and since having my son in 2010 I have struggled with post-partem and just felt hopeless and apathetic.
Anyway, I think the sleeve is the greatest gift that I could have given myself and I hope that as some of my bigger friends see me regain the old me (bubbly and outgoing) they will ask me about my sleeve and I will get to share with them the wonderful gift it truly is. Had I known about this sooner and my insurance would have covered it sooner I would have been banging on the surgeon's door. Of course, I had to finish having children first as at my age time was running short.

Well I have less then 100 to loose ( would be happy with 80) I have always been big at 240 pounds ( heaviest) I loose and gain . I did this for health reasons carrying around a extra 80 pounds is hard on the body. I have lost 12 pounds since surgery ( will be 2 weeks on Monday ) I wish you well and keep us posted !

I only have about 95/100 pounds to lose. But I've tried to lose that for years. The final straw for me and the reason i chose Weight loss surgery is because I had several comorbidies. Diabetes,Sleep Apnea and High Cholesterol. I have 2 children that are 2 and 5. I needed to do somthing drastic for them. They need to have mom that will be there for them as long as possible. I am also 44 years old. I had my children late in life, another reason to try and be as healthy as possible for them.
I was scared to death to have this surgery. I did not want to die and leave my kid's without a mother but I had to take a chance for them. It was the best decision I have every made. I am healthier then I've every been and I have more energy for my kids.
I really don't think that this is the first thing people think of to lose weight. I would say most people have tried for years and years to lose weight and this is their last hope.
Just because some one is not super morbid obese does not mean they have not had the same struggles. I was considered morbid obese.

It has been said that if you have 100lbs. or more to lose......
There is a 5% chance that you can lose it and maintain it.......
I wish I was of the mindset and that My Surgeons sleeve was available to me when I was at 100lbs. over weight.
With 100lbs. to lose vs. 200+lbs. to lose may be the difference between having other medical issues and for sure may be the difference of having skin issues or not.....

I understand where you're coming from in asking the question----and I agree that it's not a criticism of anyone's decision.
I had to back away from this board for awhile because I was actually "envious" or "jealous" of folks starting at my weight when I was 16 months out. Or they were starting at my goal weight. Or folks were writing about size 6 and 8---I'll never be there no matter how much I lose! Very unlike me to be envious---I'm easy going and usually supportive of everyone's effort but it was really getting to me.
It made for good conversation with the shrink.
But it all boiled down to years of poor decisions on my part---including not have some type of WLS earlier. I wish I had taken the plunge at 75, 100, 125, etc pounds to lose rather than yo-yoing for the past 40+ years. Although we share experiences and support here, we can really only compare our success to our own goals. I think our reasons and needs for WLS are as varied as the people on this board.
Success to all of us!!
