The upper GI doesn't take long at all.  They results will most likely be forwarded to your surgeon directly.  The part most people hate about the UGI is drinking the contrast material and the constant turning, etc.  If theres a problem, your surgeon will talk to you about them.

As for the actual surgery, I woke up in the reovery room feeling pretty groggy - not doped up but like I had come back from a deep sleep.  I remember my first thought was "Damn, they Cathetered me".   I dozed on and off for a little bit.  It wasn't bad at all.

The most irritating things for me the first night were the cath and the sore throat from the tube.  Sucking on the ice helped that.  Just dont be afraid to hit the pain button when you need it.  If you don't let the pain ever start, you wont feel it at all.  That first day, every time it says you can get another dose, do it.

Good Luck!  I hope you have as much success with your sleeve as I am having with mine.

I was very nervous about the upper GI but luckly it turned out to be a painless, quick procedure. The pre procedure stuff probably too longer than the test. I  was given spray to numb my throat, an IV of aneth, and it was over. I woke up quickly, had some juice and was on my feet walking around within 20 minutes. I received the results and photos after the exam.
Try not to fret too much.

Brace yourself.. the UGI, preop, the contrast is absolutely horrible.. maybe the radiology place  you are going to may flavor it for you but they didnt at the place i went to. I almost gagged because I had not eaten anything. But post op I was fine with the UGI, it was a liquid instead of the thick contrast before surgery. Results are pretty quick if not the same day for preop. Usually your dr office will definelty give you call if anything was abnormal. Anesthesia was not bad at all. I was a lil groggy dozing off and on for about a few hours but then I was awake taking small sips of liquids and up walking to get my body back into things.

Good luck with your surgery!
