Sip Size

So, if I take tiny sips I seem to take in more air, which is painful going down. If I take bigger sips, I feel a little discomfort once its down, but just for a second. Much less pain then taking the air with the tiny sip.

But which is better for my 6 day old sleeved tummy?

the only way I can drink anything is with a spoon. Try it see if it helps. I still cant get my 64 oz in a day of liquids but I am trying my best.

Tiny, tiny sips that just sort of wet your mouth and lips and maybe don't require a swallowing.  Warm liquids like broth also were so much better on my new tummy and throa****er was the hardest to get down for me so I stuck to jello and protein drinks and broth and decaf tea.

Is your throat and esophagus hurting or feeling scatchy?  That could be from the intubation and will heal in a few weeks.  Do what feels best for you right now.  You are doing great.

Listen to your body. If something is causing discomfort, and you have an alternative that does not cause as much discomfort, that is your body's way of telling you that it likes the second method better for some reason.

As long as those "bigger" sips are really sips and not gulps, you should be fine. If you're still unclear about the size of your sips, make sure you call your dr to verify. Better safe than sorry.

My Nutriotionist suggested that we buy a Camelbak water bottle and take out the straw.  I'm not sleeved yet, but bought it to see how it works.  She calls it the adult sippy cup.  I bought mine from REI.com but saw that Target sales it too (in the thermos section).

Have you tried this yet because I dont see how my camelbak would work without the straw?

My hospital sent me home with a ton of those little 1 oz measuring cups. I used them for like 2 hours and got sick of it. Do what feels comfortable. Your body will let you know... TRUST ME. LOL. I found after a couple of weeks I could drink normally and now I can chug a bottle of water just like before.
