I am dying to have a cup of coffee this morning.  I drank a cup a day pre-op but haven't have any since my surgery almost 3 weeks ago.  When did you start drinking coffee again and also when did u start swallowing pills again?

Thanks in advance,

Nathalie

I am sorry to say I can't quite remember when. I am 2 month post op and I tried coffee.....oh maybe a month out and it didn't go well. But now I drink a cup a day easily and really enjoy it.

As for pills - my tummy is very cooperative and I can swallow multiple pills at once.

Hi Sleepless,

don't know about the coffee, but do know that it should be caffeine free, since I haven't had surgery yet, but I was told in my pre-op meeting that you can crush your pills or meds and take them that way if the pharmacists says it is ok to crush your meds and then I was told that you can start taking them whole after 6 weeks and then again someone told me after 3 months.

I would say, call your post-op specialist or PCP or bariatric doc's office and find out the answers to your pills issue. Good luck with that.

Sincerely,

Rita

I started drinking half-caf at about 1 week after surgery with sugar free cream and splenda. I went back to caffeinated at about 4-5 weeks. I started taking small pills (half the size of my pinky fingernail) a few days after surgery and then after a month started back taking all my vitamins and medicines without crushing or cutting them. These were all in my post-op instructions given to me before surgery by my dr's office. I used chewable vitamins and calcium for the first month and cut my zinc in 3 pcs. to reduce the size.

Hi there,

Our surgeon told me, "coffee as tolerated", I tolerated it right away, but had decaf for a few weeks and gradually started adding the caffeinated variety as I went along and now I'm usually drinking half and half, but have certainly had lots of regular coffee.  Dr. Christou had me taking all my meds in the hospital and made me bring them to have them there.  I opted for liquid calcium for the first month because they were so big, but everything else (cholesterol and bp meds etc) that was not too big I swallowed down in his clinic.

Wow how timely. I spent the morning hurling over two sips of coffee. Hubby bought me a small decaf from panera, i added half and half. Never had such horrendous pain from my gut into my chest. Otherwise, mild decaf from home, with sm amt of skim milk has not been bothering me. I can drink about half cup. Just be very careful with it!

I started back on coffee about 6 weeks post-op.  I started with adding it to my protein drink, for a "mocha" type coffee drink. I will say this was against my surgeon's wishes as he's anti- any drugs, but me without coffee is not pretty.  I drink a full pot a day now, it's definitely something that I"ve upped since getting rid of all the carbs!

My surgeon cleared me for coffee the second day after surgery. I usually do half caf as well but full caffeine doesn't bother me. I also usually only have coffee a couple times a week now. Prior to surgery I was half a pot a morning gal. It just doesn't taste as fabulous to me as it did before.

I could have decafe tea and coffee right after surgery. I had to wait until after my two month post op visit to have caffeine coffee. And the main thing they told me is be careful what you add to it the creamers artificial sweetners ect. But id check with your nut or surgeon to see when they say you can have the coffee all surgeons are different.
