I work nights in an ICU.  My biggest trigger is workplace goodies, the barrage of crap, candy, chips, etc is endless.  I need a plan to combat the endless supply of temptations.  Who can help me out?

You can't beat jerky or pork rinds.  1/2 once of jerky or 2-3 pork rinds and my urge is gone. Bob

Hi Bob ,

Love Beef Jerky - i know when i travel up north ( Mio Mi )  I always stop at a place that has a huge selection of Jerky . I can think of the name but it has a dear rack as their logo. They have really good turkey jerky.

I am curious about the pork rinds , do they get stuck at all ? i know they can be a bit dry .

I have to be careful with the pork rinds. I just take small bites and if I get the stuck feeling I just sip some water.  I think the place you are talking about is the jerky outlet. Bob

Just a fyi- we can't absorb the protein from rinds.  Wrong kind of protein.

I like cottage cheese with a little fruit, laughing cow cheese wedge with half calorie crackers, protein shakes if craving sweet, protein coffee, and just a lot of hot calorie free fluid.

Good suggestion Bob, in fact, I just started making my own jerky last year.  Time to drag out the dehydrator....

baby bell cheese, trader joe's lite mild cheddar stick, beef jerky, pumpkin seeds (only once in a while cuz they are kinda high in fat), Parmesan or turkey pepperoni "chips", & hard boiled eggs.

Also a glass of hot tea can curb the sweet cravings, there are a million flavors to pick from.

I also rely on hard boiled eggs and mini baby-bel cheeses (I actually prefer the light version).  I used to be able to do the single-serving packs of peanut butter, but that's become a total trigger food for me so I had to give them up.  I had a terrible time giving up popcorn until I found the soy crisps.  (I think Gen-Soy is the brand you can often find in grocery stores, sometimes in the natural foods section).  They're a bit high in carbs, so I try not to eat too many of those.  I usually buy a few bags of protein chips from DietDirect when I order my vitamins too.

I also like the seaweed snacks that all the kids are eating these days - fills that salty craving nicely.  Kale chips are great too, but they're  a bit of work to make your own, and really expensive to buy (Whole Foods has them).

Pepperoni chips are so easy - less than a minute in the microwave and they get nice and crispy.  I used to make cheese "chips" in the oven too - just cheese, baked until it gets crunchy.
