Preparation

As I get prepared for my surgery (still waiting approval) is there anything that I should buy..do I need a blender, food scale, things of that nature

Food scale for sure and something on the order of a ninja

 

Your favorite tastiest lip balm, for the hospital. Food scale is needed. If you are good with the idea of pureeing your food then get a small personal blender. I can't get past the idea of it so I have stuck to already soft foods and chewing the death out of thicker foods. 

Measuring cup for liquids and I also have made good use of the shaker bottle--the kind with the little metal ball in it.

I got the food scale and the personal blender.  Just use the scale, I can't see getting the blender dirty for 1/4 cup of food.
