I don't like that my surgeon says...

I should be at 50% of my excessive weight loss at 6 months and 65% to 70% at 1 year. Today was my 3 month check up and I'm at about 54% already. At my 6 month check up I want to be at 75% of my excessive weight. He says that my weight loss will start to slow down now. I want to prove him wrong soo bad!! Am I being realistic? Total weight I needed to lose was 135 lbs. I'm down 73.5lbs pre and post op.

My plan calls for me losing 50% by three months, 80% by six months and the rest before the one year is up.  I lost 96 pounds in 6.5 months and that brought me to 101 lbs. Yes, it can be done.

Your weight loss will slow down, it is inevitable. My first 3 months 100 lbs. my second 3 months 31 lbs. Basically same diet and increased exercise. I am not saying you will be like me, everyone is different, some are more disciplined and less succesful and some are less disciplined and more successful. You just have to stick with it until you are happy with what you see in the mirror or on the scale then keep it up forever after.

I know what you mean.  I went to my 3 month appointment this week and I had lost 65 of my 125 lbs.  She said I was doing great but I will probably still lose a little more but ultimately, I will only probably be able to keep 73lbs off.  I was disappointed in her statement.  I don't know but maybe she was trying to be realistic but I want to lose it and keep it off.  I was a little bummed.  If she is correct then I will just get under 200 lbs.

I agree just under 200 isn't good enough! We CAN get to goal!! Look at all the others that have! They are so inspiring!!

I think it's fine to have personal goals that are more aggressive than the doc's goals.  Doc's often base goals on their own practice data or national data -- which will include both the high and the low losers.

Your weight loss will slow some, but stick to your plan and see how it goes!  If you show him wrong, great!  If you don't, well, you know that you stuck to your plan and did the best you could -- so don't let not meeting your goal get you down if you are following your plan!

At my 3-month visit, my doc said I was ahead of their usual RNY patients (but I'm not at where Cirangle patients are!), but we have not discussed a final goal at all -- and I haven't asked.  Seems weird to me, but frankly, since I've never been a "normal" size, I have a hard time focusing on a final goal!

Just keep plugging along!

I agree! I've never been a normal weight, so I will keep plugging away and see how I feel as I get closer to what I should be! Thanks for your reply!! : )

Why does my doctor/nutritionist not set a goal on weight for me?  Why are they conservative when setting the goals?  Does it affect the success rates (if they track them)?  Just curious :-)
