Ugh, what's up with eggs?

Okay, I've always listed eggs as one of my favorite foods. Yummy and versatile, portable and a great source of easy protein. I really expected egg to be a useful go-to food for me after my VSG.

Here's the twist. Right from the beginning I've been unable to eat them! Scrambled, boiled, omelette or egg salad...makes no difference. They go down hard, leaving me that lump-in-the-throat sensation, and they sit like a rock in my tummy afterwards. They don't even taste the same.

I try, every month or so, and now I'm 5 months out and nothing has changed.

Any thoughts. Other people have this issue with them? Did it go away eventually? I want my eggs back! LOL

I thought the same thing about being my go-to food. At three weeks I tried a scramble egg since it was on my puree list. Couldn't get it all down and hurt like hell. I did have a fried egg for breakfast recently and it didn't hurt. Wasn't greasy or anything and I chewed it up well.  I think I can hold more in the morning after fasting all night. I'm afraid to try a scrambled egg again.

I find the scrambled ones hard to get down more than half of one.  I can do overeasy, but otherwise I'm in the same boat.  It's weird because I can eat everything else without issue, even right from the beginning.

Same here.  I'm one month out, tried scrambles egg whites twice, and they do go down hard with that same sensation.  I hope it gets better for you--and me!  :)

I couldn't eat chicken until a coupla weeks ago.

I'm sure it's normal. Relax.

I couldn't eat eggs until just recently. I was afraid to keep trying them so I layed off for a while. I am 7 months postop today and I had an egg fried in Pam this morning plus a chicken sausage and everything went well. No discomfort and tasted good. I took 30 minutes or more to eat it.

Im on the same boat, Im glad you posted this issue, likewise, it was my favorite 2. It is much easier if the boil egg is cold, but other than that, forget it.

I can do poached eggs (when done 'light')....but hard boiled and scrambled are much harder...maybe that will change in time.  I can also do egg beaters, again lightly cooked, not hard).

I've heard that!  Luckily, I did not have that experience.  Is it because of the fat content and the amount of time it takes to empty from the stomach?  Just a guess.

Wow, so many people with the same experience! Eggs seem so harmless. My mom fed them to us when we were sick because they were easy to keep down! I wonder why the sleeve doesn't like them.

I've noticed chicken, too, but not as bad.

Ah well, I'm just in my 5th month post-op, I guess it's just a matter of time. 😄
