Pre-op diet questions

I am two weeks from surgery and I am on the pre-op diet of protein shakes, broth, sugar free Jell-O and popsicles. I have been told I can have all the leafy greens I can eat. The problem with that is that I am a super taster, I can't eat most vegetables. I can eat cooked onions but I was wondering about red bell peppers or white rice?

I wouldn't do rice. You need to take advantage of this time as a "carb detox". It makes post op life SO much easier and less frustrating when you don't have to deal with carb cravings on top of everything else. The leafy greens were likely advised because of their fiber content.

Thank you for your help. Fiber would be good, I am obviously not getting enough. I don't know what to think of these nutritionist, the last few have just frustrated me. I sat six hours in a class to be lectured about how I need to make better choices but that during the puree and soft foods stage I should eat mash potatoes and mac & cheese. I really wish they would explain more behind why and not just say this is the diet, try to stick to it.

OMG! They are NUTS (pardon the pun), don't listen to that mashed potatoes and mac & cheese crap, cuz that's just what that is - crap. Please don't start that way if you can help it. I would stick to "leafy" pre-op just as the doc ordered and not do the rice.  You'd probably be okay with the peppers (I'd pass on it), but it's not my call, it's yours.  Good luck.  I know this part is really hard so keep your chin up and do the best you can.

My thoughts exactly!  I am not having my stomach cut up and just to be back where I am.  I just felt like she was talking down to everyone.  I made my own broths so that I could control the nutrient levels in them.  I am studying my ass off so that I never am back here again.  I had to pay to sit there for 6 hours on my Sunday to be spoken to like child and then told that she and the hospital staff had to take sensitivity classes like I am mentally disabled as well.

you don't get much carbs or calories   just post op from mashed potatoes  or mac and cheese because  you only eat like 1 or 2 tea spoons if that much , but eggs would be a better choose , also tuna salad with a little mayo the fat helps stop constipation

what is a super taster  ?

Early humans developed extra taste buds to help them detect poison in foods.  Poison has a bitter taste in it's natural state unfortunately so  do most vegetables and green tea.  It also makes foods too much, too sweet, too greasy, too sour.  About 1/4 of the population still has those taste buds, most have about half, and then some are under tasters.
