Ketosis? Dry mouth?

I've been waking up with a very dry mouth, my mouth tastes like a box of cornflakes, and the back of my teeth feel fuzzy. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this ketosis? I use a cpap, so maybe it's something related to that, but I've never experienced this before. And my tongue is a little raw/teeth fuzzy later through the day too. Thanks for the help.

Hi,

when I experienced ketosis my breath was really bad.  That was one of the ways I knew, and that all I was eating was water and chicken broth.  I have been having dry mouth a lot lately but I have been having problems getting  all my water in so I am thinking I may be a little dehydrated, are you getting all your water in?  Your CPAP could also be contributing, sounds like it could be a combination of things........

Thanks. That definitely could be it. Haven't noticed bad breath really, so yeah, maybe.

I just had my 2 1/2 month follow up with my surgeon.  I asked him about the bad taste in my mouth and my breath, it's been a very sweet taste and my sister said my breath smells like medicine.  The surgeon said that was ketosis for sure.  I also had a visit with my PCP and she had my CPAP adjusted because I was waking up with extreme dry mouth.  It has improved a lot but it still can get pretty dry, just not quite as bad.  I think I'm going to need another sleep study to see if it's still too much pressure.  I would talk to your doctor and see what they have to say for sure.  This was just my personal experience.

I had to turn my cpap down twice in the first month before I got off it permanently not even two months after the surgery. It was so strong that it sort of blew my mouth open a little and that will dry your mouth out in no time. The fuzzy teeth during the day sure sounds like ketosis.

Work on getting your cpap turned down. You probably won't need it much longer. Good luck.

My CPAP gave me horrible dry mouth after surgery. Prior to surgery I never had a single issue so something definitely changed. I never really figured out how to solve the problem. At first I would use it only half the night, and not at all on weekends, but eventually I just stopped using it altogether. Thankfully my weigh loss reduced my apnea to insignificant levels (officially). I heard here on OH that adjustments to the settings could help, but by the time I had a chance to follow up with the sleep doc my apnea was gone.

I also get the ketosis taste but don't worry about it much. I figure it's a good sign that the weight loss is on track. I do find myself wondering what will it be like once I'm able to kick myself out of ketosis and go on maintenance. For now I just drink a lot of water to keep thing flushed, that seems to help even if the water taste is mildly affected.

The raw feeling of your tongue leads me to think it is oral yeast infection, thrush, like babies get. Not unusual to gt it after the antibiotics we get with a surgery.

A call to your surgeons office for a RX for it is necessary. Be sure to tell them your tongue is raw feeling.
