What should I expect from the psych eval I'll have to get?  What sort of answers are they looking for?  Is it something that a person can actually fail?

Mine was super easy.  He told me very informative info about addiction and how our body works.  He told me what to look for down the road.  I took 2 tests.  On my 2nd visit, he told me my results...scary accurate!   That was about it.

I took several test and had a lengthy discussion with the Psychiatrist.  We talked about past diets, family history/problems ect  We also spoke about my depression issues of today.  I was ok'd for surgery.  Can't wait to get it done.  The biggest piece of advice I can give is just be honest.  Those people are pretty keen at figuring out if your being truthful.  I wondered afterwards if I had volunteered to much information, but he still approved for me to have surgery.  God bless you on your journey.

Thank you!

I'm concerned right now mainly because my dad was just diagnosed with cancer and is starting chemo on Tuesday so I'm worried that I'll talk to a psychiatrist and he/she'll will just be like, "Nope!  Your life is way too hectic and crazy right now."  :P

That won't happen.

They are actually in your corner.  Don't worry that they're just waiting for an opportunity to yell, "No VSG for you!"  It's not about hectic lives - heck - we all deal with that and would wait forever if we have to find the perfect timing.   You'll do yourself the best service to be completely honest and open.

Best wishes and prayers with you and your family as your dad starts his treatments!

They're not looking to fail you.  It's more of a "do you understand what you're getting into?" session and they want to see what kind of support system you have.

Thanks :)

Luckily, my support system rocks.  As long as my therapist isn't weird about non-traditional families :P

Lol - I haven't seen a traditional family since I was 5.
