how accurate is myfitnesspal?
I just put in a recipe and I was a little surprised at how much protein it ended up having. It was yummy, too. I'll share in case anyone is interested:
1 lb ground beef, browned
4 slices of pre-cooked bacon
1/4 cup of shredded lowfat cheddar cheese
4 eggs
I put the meats and cheese in a pie plate, beat the eggs and poured them on top. 350 for 25 minutes. Sliced it in 8 pieces, each piece weighed 2 oz or just a little over. Myfitnesspal says 20 grams protein, 0 carbs, 200 calories.
I was going for the "Bisquick cheeseburger pie" experience, and it came pretty close.
It completely depends on what data you pulled in for each ingredient. If you were careful to check, for example, that the calories for the meat was accurate then good. If you assumed whichever one you picked is right- there can be a large fluctuation.
Have you ever tried ground turkey or chicken instead? You could shave a lot of calories for the same satisfaction. You just need to add a bit more spice.

That sounds yummy. I will try that and throw some spinach in it too. Thanks Milly.

That sounds about right to me. Everything you put in it has a decent protein content and split eight ways breaks down to about 200 calories each.
A lot of the stuff on MFP is accurate, and while not everything is the things that are off are often not that off typically. I do, though, check some things. Not the generic entires really, but sometimes the things with a brand attached to it.
