Sharing your story

For the first time someone ticked me off today about my procedure.  See I come from weighing more than 350lbs and having 180lbs to loose.  While I've never been afraid to share my story of the procedure with others this particular person made me wish I had.  I currently weigh 194lbs and have a goal weight of 170lbs and last 20lbs that I've lost I would say have been a struggle to get off with 24 more lbs to go.  Well, I post my locations to the gym everytime I arrive as it somewhat holds me accountable and as I've seen that I inspire and encourage so many people to live a more active lifestyle.  I don't take this blessing God has given me as a joke.  Granted it has been 2 years as of March 1st and I'm still learning what works best for me nutrition wise.  Well, this particular person I decided to follow up on and asked her had she found time for the gym because she had inquired with me about her attending.  She politely told me "no" and that she didn't want to go to the gym and that she wanted a jump start like I have.  She said that she wanted to loose weight without working out.  Mind you ladies and gentlemen, this lady only has maybe 50lbs to loose.  She says 70lbs, but I think she wishes to live in her high school days - ijs!  This upset me because she thinks this is a joke, I workout 4 days a week (burning anywhere from 700-900 calories) and coming next month will up that to 5 days a week.  I meal prep, drink protein shakes and while granted there are things I have to work on - I take this seriously.  I've never been afraid to share my story with others because someone shared theirs with me that got me to where I am today, but she really made me wish I hadn't shared with her.  Lesson today - don't be afraid to share your story, but be careful with whom you share it with.

I think the real lesson here is that you can't control how people will react to your story and what they'll take away from it.  Sharing is great... some people just don't process the information in the way we think that they should!

Congrats on your hard work - it's really paying off!

I have been very guarded about my procedure. During all of my changes, I need privacy to focus on the work of WL. I haven't been dissed yet and do not want that to happen. You are wise to share your experience here.

I told someone I was sleeved and they asked to see my tats

This isn't vanity surgery, it's health surgery. It's nice to lose weight and wear smaller sizes, but for a majority of us that are sleeved, it's about stopping high blood pressure RX, eradicating diabetes, lowering our risk of a heart attack, eliminating sleep apnea and so on.

She's not well informed, consider the source and move on. My field of give a craps is barren. I have none to give..I'm too busy enjoying my healthy lifestyle

I wasn't planning on telling anyone the details, the only person who knew for sure what I was having was my direct supervisor. Someone let it slip, however, and by the end of the day on my last day of work EVERYBODY knew about it, So, bummer. Tomorrow is my first day back, so we will see how it goes. I would prefer not to talk about it, but since the word is out, if someone asks a question I will answer honestly. I think that so many people don't understand WLS, so one of the reasons I don't mind talking about it now is to educate everyone about how it really is.

On another note, you have done a great job! Congrats!

check out my blog!

If it comes up again, go all out and tell her how vigilant you are.  Tell her exactly how many calories you eat. How much protein and carbs. How often you workout. Your workout routine. Tell her EVERYTHING. See if she still wants your "easy" jump start.
