Emergency gallbladder removal surgery yesterday at 9 months out

I had a bad gallbladder attack driving to work Thursday. Turns out my gallbladder was full of stones and infected. My WLS surgeon wanted it out right away, so he added me to his schedule and removed it yesterday. I am still in the hospital but will be going home in an hour or two. The recovery feels very much like VSG recovery physical except I can drink and eat.  The surgeon is concerned yhst since here were so many stones, I may still have some that travelled outside the gallbladder so I will be on a medication to break down stones for 3 weeks.

Can an anyone share how long they were out of work after?

Thanks!

I haven't had my VSG yet, but I had my gallbladder removed for the same reasons several years ago. It was laparoscopic and I had the surgery on Thursday, home on Friday, and back to school (albeit sore) on Monday. If you have a desk-ish job you should be fine. I am sorry you are having to deal with this but you will feel 210% better!

When I had mine, the gas was again the hardest part of the whole thing.  Once that passed, I was fine.

I am two months out and my gall bladder is coming out the 26th.  Had a really bad week last week.  Had a nuclear test that showed my gall bladder was hardly functioning. Aggravating to me is the fact we asked to have it out with the WLS but wouldn't' do it. My insurance stated they would pay for GB removal at time of WLS cuz 29% have GB problems.  This is caused by the rapid weight loss that occurs.

So...not too painful?  Doc says I will feel a lot better.  I still have to swallow a lot after I eat.  I have lost 90 pounds since last June and 61 since my operation.

Keep waiting to be beautiful!  I am an old lady compared to most of you.  Am in 60's   But one is only as old as they feel.

Go od luck to you.

Age is just a number.  Congrats on your Weight loss sucsess! My doctors protocol to put all his patients on gb meds 2 weeks after vgs for 6 month.  ..I'm hoping  that will help me not getting the stones from rapid weight loss. Good luck.

I had my gall bladder out at about 12 months...wicked gall attacks, that sucker came out and I've felt 100% ever since.

My surgeon gave me 4 weeks out on Short Term Disability, I used 2 of those weeks, but in all honesty, I had surgery on Thursday (out-patient, home that afternoon) and could have gone back to work the following Monday.

I had mine out almost a year ago. I was a bit different, I had such a massive infection that I was in the hospital for 4 days, 3 nights after surgery. It took a full two weeks for me to be back and running and slightly longer than that before I actually felt 100% better. Wishing you good luck and a speedy recovery :)
