Can't seem to get all my protein in?

So week 5, down 34.8 lbs and still struggling with getting all my protein in ( 50 grams a day). Any ideas besides Protein drinks or is that my best option for now? Seems like I am sipping or eating all day at this point during the week. Weekend are killers as I get busy and is harder for me to structure my eating for the day.

50 grams a day actually seems fairly low.  Most plans seem to call for 60-80.

If I can't get in all of my protein from food (which I can't at this point), I have a protein shake.  My NUT says that most people will need 1-2 shakes a day until around 6 months.  This is probably especially true for me since I stick to 3 meals a day and can only get 1-3 ounces of dense protein in at a time!

I think you should be sipping all day when you're not eating, so that's not really a problem.  Just try to get into the habit of planning better for the weekends.  You might find that those days are when you want two shakes instead of one.

Yes I know it is low ;-(

I see so much about trying not to use shakes or bars, Glad to hear that I can rely on them for 6 months! Thanks I'm on my way to Sam Club for more shakes!

As long as you've got a high quality shake, I don't really think it's a problem.  I avoid bars since I think the ingredients are more dubious.

Agreed, 50 grams seems low. I have always shot for 80 minimum daily. I do a shake in the morning and at night (most days) with around 30 grams of protein each. Food making about the addition 20+ grams. The only shake I am able to drink on a regular basis is with coffee protein added. I do Isopure Zero carb vanilla (1 scoop) and Click Mocha Espresso (1 scoop) and both have protein.

Lots of vets still use a shake.  I'm 13 months out and do one every day - I like it!  Greek yogurt and cottage cheese are high in protein.  I also used Isopure zero carb drunks early out.

50 grams is low. Eventually you'll want to work up to 80 grams.

I don't want to give up my Isopure zero carb drinks. I like them and I like the fact that they have zero carbs and 40g of protein. I love chocolate powder (pretty much any) with some instant coffee crystals mixed in - like a delicious iced mocha shake. Not giving them up. I just factor them in.

I am way farther out than you.  I have a shake in my coffee every morning.  I am just not a breakfast person, and the shake gives me a boost of protein in the morning when I'm not ready to eat yet (plus 30g I don't have to fit in later, yay!).  I see nothing wrong with continuing the shakes.  Post-plastics I was not hungry and didn't feel like eating, so I went back to 2 so my body would have the protein it needed to heal.

Obviously we can't live exclusively off shakes forever (that would get really old), but I see no reason not to use them to supplement and don't see myself stopping any time soon.

I'm about 3.5 months out from surgery and I do 2 shakes a day on top of breakfast, lunch, and dinner. My morning shake usually happens after my workout and contains unsweetened almond milk, a protein powder with no artificial sweeteners, greens, and vitamins poured in. Right before bed I mix a protein shake using only water and sometimes magnesium to help me sleep. My goal is to have 90 to 100 grams of protein a day and about 800 to 900 calories a day. I've lost a total of 65 pounds. You should definitely get more protein. You'll probably have more energy too.

Good luck.
